Travel Itinerary

Highlights you can experience

Destination 1: Umhlanga

Umhlanga is a wonderful holiday resort area located just outside of the colourful, vibrant city of Durban. A great stop to unwind on any South African holiday, the main attraction here is certainly the warm ocean waters and golden beaches. Many water-based activities are also on tap here such as Scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, kiteboarding and much more. The southern hemisphere’s largest shopping centre is on hand for fantastic shopping opportunities. The Umhlanga Lagoon and Beachwood Mangroves nature reserves are nearby as well, offering walking trails and boardwalks through the coastal dunes and mangrove forests of the area.

Destination 2: KwaZulu Natal Midlands

The Midlands of KwaZulu Natal is a beautiful region, filled with unique ecosystems, wildlife and much more. Numerous nature reserves are dotted around the region, including Albert Falls Dam, Loteni and Karkloof Nature reserves. The Karkloof Nature reserve is exclusive to guests staying at the reserve’s lodges. Here you can explore unique wildlife, from the Karkloof blue butterfly to white rhinos and chameleons. The region also offers wonderful, lush vegetation filled with thick forests and towering waterfalls, such as Karkloof Falls.
The area is also home to farmland, quaint villages and the unique Midlands Meander: a driving route filled with arts and crafts shops, eateries, cultural village experiences as well as wine estates.

Destination 3 & 4: Northern Drakensberg

The area of northern Drakensberg is home to southern Africa’s highest mountains. Hiking is, therefore, a very popular activity here, with one of the most well-known hikes taking you up the Drakensberg Amphitheatre which sits over 3000 feet high and stretches over 3 miles wide. Mountain biking and horseback riding are also popular activities in the region.
Northern Drakensberg is also a must-visit destination for military history aficionados. English and Dutch conflicts with local indigenous people occurred in the late 19th century. You can visit these battlefields from those conflicts as well as numerous war monuments that dot the area. These monuments commemorate battles fought during the Voortrekker-Zulu conflict as well as the Anglo-Boer war.

Destination 5: Manyoni Private Game Reserve

The Manyoni Private Game Reserve is located in the heart of Zululand, a region rich in both wildlife and sensational game viewing opportunities. Spread over 55,000 acres, this game reserve is home not only to the Big 5 of African wildlife but also rare painted wolves!
The park is primarily focused on conservation projects, the most well known is the Black Rhino Expansion Project and this rare animal can also be seen on a game drive here! Of course, as a game reserve, its most notable activity is game drives to view the numerous wildlife in the reserve, including the Big 5, and an amazing array of birds (the word Manyoni means place of birds).
