On a tour through England you’ll be led by the sound of music, and landmarks as famous as The Fab Four. Begin in London, where the River Thames flows beneath Tower Bridge and there’s a museum, monument, or market for every taste—the pubs aren’t half bad either. Then, it’s time for Liverpool, the birthplace of The Beatles and port city with a proud past. End in Manchester, a northern cultural epicenter that’s full of hip boutiques, international cuisine, and friendly banter.

Travel Itinerary

1. London

Where does one begin in marvelous London, how about with a double-decker bus tour? Witness a Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace after swinging by Big Ben—it’s worth your time. Cross Westminster Bridge to take in the beauty of Westminster Abbey, before relaxing in an east end pub after crossing Abbey Road—in London, there’s a lot going on. Mashed potato and fried eel for tea, anyone?

2. Liverpool

Head north to Liverpool and prepare to get musical. As Elvis Presley once said, “each day should begin with a song,” so why not pay homage to The Fab Four and tour The Beatles Story Museum to learn of a swinging 60s that helped propel them towards Beatlemania. A ferry ride across the Mersey provides stunning views of Albert Dock. Shop on trendy Bold Street and glam up for a night of music at the iconic Cavern Club, the least you could do after a day of magical mystery.

3. Manchester

Head northwest to Manchester and walk among the red-brick walls of a city once at the heart of an industrial revolution. The sound of Britpop was immortalized by local rock ‘n’ roll favorites Oasis, and before their rise, The Smiths, cementing the city’s reputation for cutting edge music. A live venue is a must here—but don’t worry, they’re everywhere. First, indulge in some culture at the Northern Quarter’s Whitworth Art Gallery. End with an amble to the neighborhood of Ancoats for buffalo mozzarella and boar salami pizza—a taste of home before you go.
