Plan your tripYour Melbourne and Victoria Tour will start in Melbourne - Australia’s second-largest city, and the nation’s cultural capital. Ranked year after year as the world’s most liveable city, you’ll soon understand why. Explore its charming back streets and discover artisan boutiques on a Melbourne Lanes and Arcade Walk (included in your vacation package). The tour concludes in the early afternoon, at which time you’ll be left to your own devices. If you’re interested in art, we recommend visiting the National Gallery of Victoria - Australia’s largest, oldest, and most visited art museum. If you’re feeling jet-lagged, head back to the hotel for some R&R before venturing out in the evening, where you’ll find an incredible range of top-end eateries - ask your Travel Expert for recommendations.Â
Next, you’ll leave Melbourne and head south towards the Great Ocean Road - an Australian National Heritage route that runs 150 miles between Torquay and Allansford, both located in Victoria. Enjoy what is one of the world’s most scenic coastal drives at your own pace. If you’re interested in wine, be sure to stop at one of the top-rated wineries along the route. Your end destination is Apollo Bay - a cute coastal town where you’ll spend the night. If you’re in the mood for the outdoors, head to Great Otway National Park - which is home to a multitude of excellent hiking trails and waterfalls.Â
After a restful night in Apollo Bay, head west along the Great Ocean Road and enjoy the picture-perfect coastline of Victoria. Be sure to stop at the Twelve Apostles on the way - these spectacular limestone stacks tower dramatically out of the ocean, and are one of the highlights of the route. Your next stop is Port Fairy - a charming nineteenth century fishing town. Consider visiting Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve - an extinct volcano that is now a great place for hiking. Alternatively, head to the ocean and relax on the serene Killarney Beach. From Port Fairy, it is roughly a three-and-a-half hour drive back to Melbourne.
Customize your trip as you wish with your Tourlane Travel Expert - who will provide information on visas and vaccines. Victoria is located in Australian Eastern Standard Time, and the official currency is the Australian Dollar (AUD). The official language is English.
