1. Nairobi

Your Kenya and Tanzania Safari begins in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, a capital city throbbing with culture and the burgeoning energy of a fresh metropolis. A visit to the national museum presents African colors in full bloom. Don’t miss out on a visit to the parliament. Feel the buzz of a city market, sizzle in delight at the sight of slithering snakes in Snake Park, or feast at one of the local eateries.

2. The Rift Valley

Today, you’ll enter the boundless Rift Valley, and be amazed at what you find. As the ground drops, you’ll come upon volcanic formations, steaming soda lakes, and undulating savanna stuffed with wildlife. Highlights to be experienced include a hike to the top of a sloping cliff face known as Hell’s Gate.

3. Kenya Safari: Masai Mara

4. Tanzania Safari: Central Serengeti

When it comes to national parks, the Serengeti is rightfully regarded as an A-lister. You’ll be left mesmerized by the migration of wildebeest if you visit in October that arrive from the Masai Mara in their millions, and the predators who await their arrival. Undulating lands of epic proportions contrast a vast sky where birds—over 270—swoop. The vegetation here is striking, such as acacia trees, for its unearthly appearance.

5. Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Covering 115 square miles, the world’s largest unbroken caldera will be a centerpiece of your tour. What you find at its surface will startle you: 25,000 animals including the endangered black rhino feed from the surface of this forested land. If cats are your thing, then the densest population of lions can be found beneath earth’s surface, as can a who’s who of Tanzania’s most sought after animals.
