Three stops in eight days: your journey from the “Mother City” to the east combines the best of the city and of the wild that the “rainbow nation” has to offer. Start with a walk through Cape Town, where Table Mountain and Signal Hill adorn a cityscape that twinkles at sunset. What follows are two of the best private game reserves in the country—Klaserie and Sabi Sands—where the “Big Five” roam, and where you can see the most unspoiled wildlife in the country.

  2. Klaserie Private Game Reserve

Travel Itinerary

Destination 1: Cape Town

Start your tour in the most famous of all South African cities: Cape Town. The Mother City has many pleasures, and with Table Mountain adorning the background of the city, its beauty is all-encompassing. Head to Castle of Good Hope, the oldest colonial building in the country, and see its gardens radiate in the sunshine. End your historical jaunt with an evening on the V&A Waterfront, and let an amber sunset follow you back to your accommodation.

Destination 2: Klaserie Private Game Reserve

After a couple of days in the Mother City, you’ll then venture south to the Klaserie Private Game Reserve. Your two-day stay here is the perfect time to discover the many secrets of this private reserve, ranging from its rustic bush camps and intimate walking trails to the “Big Five.” Grab your binoculars and check out the acacia trees, dominated by Combretum and Acacia species, the riverine bushveld, as well as the colorful kingfisher bird which calls this reserve home.

Destination 3: Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Venture further into the bush on your final stop: the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve. One of the best on the continent, this private reserve not only gives you the opportunity to see more than just a bite-size of the continent’s wildlife—cheetah, zebra, giraffe, and antelope are the norm here—it’s also the perfect place to unwind. Dine under the stars or go for a dip in one of the many pools around your accommodation. Make sure to catch a sunset as you sip on a local Stellenbosch wine.
