Travel Itinerary

Highlights you can experience

Destination 1: Arusha

You start your adventure in Arusha, known as the safari capital of Tanzania. Found in the shadow of Mt. Meru, the town is an excellent base for those heading on a safari or off to conquer Mt. Kilimanjaro. Upon arriving in town you’re sure to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and somewhat milder temperatures (as the town sits up higher than the surrounding plains). In colonial times Arusha was the capital of the German region and you can still see remnants of this time today.
Today you can stroll city streets and get an idea of life in one of Tanzania’s bustling multicultural cities or simply relax and recover from any jet lag before starting your safari trips tomorrow.

Destination 2: Lake Burunge

After a short orientation meeting in the morning, you will head off to the Tarangire National Park. The park, with its endless savannah including the impressive baobab trees and seasonal marshes, is home to the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania!
With excellent opportunities to view these magnificent elephants, don’t forget to keep an eye out for the local giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, wildebeests and many types of antelopes and gazelles. Upon our arrival at the park, we’ll open the roof of your safari vehicle and an exciting wildlife viewing tour begins. We’ll take a lunch break at a local picnic area before even more game viewing throughout the afternoon at this beautiful park. Later in the day we’ll arrive at the Lake Burunge Tented Lodge, situated just outside of the park for your overnight accommodation.

Destination 3: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, you will travel from the Tarangire park to Lake Manyara and its national park. This region is well-known for being home to over 400 bird species as well as its forests inhabited by many noisy monkeys and baboons. A large area of the park is covered by the soda lake (aka high in alkaline) Lake Manyara. The lake serves as a breeding ground for huge numbers flamingos and other birds waterfowls. The park is also home to giraffes, hippos, wildebeests, impalas and much more. After a substantial game drive, you will travel to the Kirurumu Manyara Lodge for an evening of rest and relaxation.

Destination 4: Central Serengeti

Start your day with a delightful bush breakfast before travelling on to the milder highlands and towards the southern Serengeti. By midday, you will reach the plains of the Serengeti National Park. This is the largest park in Tanzania and its numerous and superb habitats and landscapes – savannah, thick bush, swamps and lakes will surely give thrill you. Distinct and unusual rock formations called kopjes are found in the grassy landscape here and where you can often find predators lazing in the sun or getting ready for a hunt. The heartbeat of the Serengeti, its most well-known attraction that causes everyone’s heart to skip a beat, is the yearly migration of many hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras moving through the park in search of fresh grasslands and water.

Your entire second day is dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti. The areas that you visit however will depend upon the migrating herds. Of course, on top of the tremendous amount of wildebeests that we’ll be tracking, you’ll also come across their predators (as they usually follow closely behind the herds). Be on the lookout for lions as well as leopards (often up in the acacia trees) as well as cheetahs. As the migration is completely dependent on the yearly rainfalls, the location of the herds may vary from year to year but your guide will know where to locate the animals and put you in the best viewing areas.

Destination 5: Karatu

On your journey out of the park, you will enjoy even more game viewing - be sure to soak it all in as this is your last day in the Serengeti! In the early afternoon, you’ll continue your journey on to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you reach the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, you'll see the giant caldera below – a view of one of the earth’s most spectacular landscapes - truly breath-taking. Once you’ve enjoyed the views here you will leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and drive to Karatu in the Ngorongoro highlands. Here you will take a walk in a local coffee plantation to learn more about the cultivation and processing of coffee. You will spend the night at a perfectly located lodge.

Rise and shine! After an early breakfast, you'll travel back to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area before being driven down into the crater itself. This gigantic collapsed volcano is home to tens of thousands of animals, from the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – to spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs and hundreds of bird species. After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch inside the crater, you will in the late afternoon and return to your lodge for a second night.

Destination 6: Jambiani

Today you say goodbye to the wild excitement of Tanzania’s amazing wildlife and national parks and head to the island of Zanzibar for rest and relaxation. Jambiani awaits you with wide, fine-sand beaches, turquoise waters and friendly villagers. You can head into the turquoise blue waters to snorkel or scuba dive either on your own or as part of a tour. Those who prefer to stay on land can enjoy a stone and spice tour to get an in-depth tour of Stone Town and its interesting history as well as learn about the booming spice trade that made Zanzibar famous. On further days you can choose to relax beachside at your hotel or head back into, or onto, the ocean. A fascinating underwater world awaits you along the coast of Jambiani and the area is known as the tropical fish capital of eastern Africa. The waters around Jambiani are also well-suited for kite surfing for those looking for an adrenaline rush! The possibilities for rest and relaxation or adventurous activities are almost endless. At the right time of year, the waters near Zanzibar are excellent for whale watching, from the mysterious Sperm whale to the mesmerising whale shark.
