1. Florence

Florence is known for two things: the Renaissance and food. Head to the Uffizi Museum for Gentileschi’s Judith Slaying Holofernes among the Caravaggios, Titians, and Botticellis. After all that culture, it’s time to eat. Test your culinary skills at one of the town’s many cooking classes, before heading to a Trattoria for the real deal: Pappardelle with truffle and wild boar is a must, preferably with a glass of Nobile di Montepulciano. 

2. San Gimignano

Escape the grandiosity of Florence to San Gimignano, a charming hilltop town where stone buildings and good food have welcomed travelers for centuries. Competing medieval families built the 72 romanesque towers that adorn its skyline, visible for miles around. Old buildings aside, those in the know come to San Gimignano for its saffron. Indulge in locally-caught game doused in the spice, served with a luxurious glass of Vernaccia di San Gimignano white wine.

3. Siena

You’ll fall in love with Siena from the moment you step onto the Piazza Il Campo. Gaze up at the black and white stripes of the elegant cathedral, before heading inside to see Donatello’s sculpture The Feast of Herod. End a day with the Sienese in the evening heat, sipping a rich glass of Toscana and enjoying bistecca Toscana, a premium steak that was the foodie’s favorite way before Wagyu. 

4. Chianti

What’s better than a luxury wine tasting in the rolling Tuscan hills? Answer: one that comes with Pecorino on the side. Make your way north from Siena into the Chianti region, known as the “Bordeaux of Italy” for its wines. Finish your trip to Tuscany the right way, under the shade of a cypress tree with a glass of the finest Chianti Superiore in a land that tastes as good as it looks.
