1. Crickhowell
After picking up your car at London-Heathrow Airport, you’ll drive about three hours west to Crickhowell, where you’ll spend two nights. From here, there are a range of excellent day trips for you to enjoy. For those interested in culture and history, the Welsh capital Cardiff is just a short drive away, as is Tintern Abbey (an enchanting ruin from the 12th-century), and Raglan Castle, that dates from the medieval period. For the more outdoorsy types, Brecon Beacons National Park is also nearby and well worth a visit for hiking and mountain biking.
2. St. Davids
Next, you’ll travel about two and a half hours further west to St. Davids, located on the very western edge of Wales and the Irish Sea. You’ll be based in a lovely hotel here for two nights. From here, explore the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and if you’re feeling adventurous, take to the seas to visit Ramsey Island. If you’re interested in bird watching, this reserve is a great destination. Alternatively, visit the charming harbor town of Tenby, with its 13th-century castle ruins, museums, and galleries.
3. Aberystwyth
It’s back in the car and this time it’s northeast for two hours along the stunning Welsh coast to Aberystwyth, for one night. This quintessentially Welsh beach town is also home to Wales’ largest art center, and the National Library of Wales. We also recommend visiting the Devil's Bridge Falls and Constitution Hill while in the town.
4. Llandudno
For the last two nights of your trip to Wales, you’ll stay in Llandudno, one of the most famous vacation spots in Wales. If you want to do more hiking and fancy attempting the highest mountain in Wales, visit the famed Snowdonia National Park to have your breath taken away. If you’d like to experience more history, then Conwy Castle, Caernarfon Castle, and Beaumaris Castle are also within easy reach. These spectacular medieval castles reflect Wales’ important role in the history of the United Kingdom, and offer visitors a glimpse into the past. Alternatively, end your trip by relaxing on the glorious beach of Llandudno itself.
