The legendary rock city of Petra is one of the highlights of a holiday in the Middle East. The best time to travel to the Arabian Peninsula is from November to March. Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Turkey are attractive destinations in April, May and October. From mid-March to mid-May and from mid-September to mid-November, Egypt and Iran enjoy pleasant temperatures.
Several languages are represented in the Middle East. Arabic is spoken in Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Palestine, Jordan and Egypt. The official language in Israel is Hebrew. Turkish is spoken in Turkey and Persian in Iran.
For a trip to the Middle East, standard vaccinations should be complete and up to date. These include vaccinations against tetanus (tetanus), diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), measles and basic immunization against poliomyelitis/polio. Depending on the style of travel, vaccinations against hepatitis A and B, typhoid and rabies may be useful.
