The impressive sacred building
A real feat
The magnificent building is one of the largest sacred buildings in the world and is considerably larger than the Christian St. Peter's in Rome. It bears the name of Emir Zayid bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who, as co-founder and long-time President of the United Arab Emirates, had a decisive influence on the Gulf region. The interior appears like a chapter from the Guinness Book of Records. 41 domes, no fewer than 15 different types of marble from all over the world, endless areas decorated with gold leaf and a spectacular hand-knotted carpet. In the centre hangs the world's largest chandelier, whose light is refracted in thousands of Swarovski crystals. A visit here is an absolute highlight of your Abu Dhabi holiday
The small island of Saadiyat has been considerably enlarged by embankments and is developing into the emirate's cultural and scientific centre. The New York University runs a branch here, the large Performing Arts Center organizes concerts, operas and theater performances. The Sheikh-Zayed National Museum is dedicated to Arab culture between tradition and modernity. The most famous place, however, is the offshoot of the legendary Paris Louvre. In a spectacular building, whose architecture alone makes it look like a modern work of art, the great works of art from the collection of the Louvre are shown in changing exhibitions. The portfolio ranges from antiquity to contemporary art.
With the Formula 1 race track around the fascinating Yas Hotel and the Ferrari World theme park, Abu Dhabi is securing a firm place in the glamorous world of motor sports. Since 2009, the challenging circuit has had a fixed place in the racing calendar and has been the venue for the last race of the season. Right next door, Ferrari World spreads out. The theme park offers a number of spectacular attractions aimed at enthusiastic young and not so young racing fans. The highlight is the "Formula Rossa" roller coaster, which with its adventurous accelerations and top speeds of 150 mph is considered to be the fastest coaster of its kind in the world. Original is the restaurant and snack scene, which consistently focuses on Italian cuisine. Less
