Top attractions on your Peloponnese itinerary

Nafplio and the Argolic Peninsula

Nafplio is often considered one of the most beautiful towns in the Peloponnese. Its charming old streets, lined with flower-filled balconies, lead down to a scenic bay. From above, the Palamidi and Akronafplia fortresses offer sweeping views of the coastline. Relax at one of the many open-air cafés and restaurants, where the laid-back atmosphere captures the essence of Greek leisure. Beyond Nafplio, the Argolic Peninsula invites visitors to explore pebble beaches, coastal landscapes, and ancient sites nestled in the surrounding hills.More...

Monemvasia

Built against a towering cliff that drops into the sea, the medieval town of Monemvasia feels like a hidden fortress lost in time. Surrounded by intact stone ramparts, its narrow pathways are perfect for scenic walks, especially at sunset as sailboats drift past in the distance. For panoramic views, follow the hillside trails to the cliff’s summit, where breathtaking vistas of the coastline await.

Mani Peninsula

The Mani Peninsula forms the rugged central finger of the Peloponnese and remains one of Greece’s most unspoiled regions. Its dry, dramatic landscape offers hiking trails through rocky mountains and coastal paths that lead to secluded beaches and hidden coves. Inland, fortified stone villages with ancient defense towers — many now transformed into cozy guesthouses — showcase the area’s rich history and unique architecture.

Menalon Trail and Loussios Gorge

The Menalon Trail is a must for hiking enthusiasts. Stretching over 43 miles, it offers eight different segments that explore Mount Menalon, the Gortynian Mountains, the Mylaon Valley, and the scenic Loussios Gorge. Whether you choose a short day hike or a multi-day trek, the trail offers spectacular scenery and memorable experiences. Local tourist offices provide helpful information and trail maps for planning your route.

Ancient Sites of the Peloponnese

The Peloponnese is home to some of Greece’s most significant ancient sites, many designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In Mycenae, once ruled by King Agamemnon, visitors can explore the royal palace, ancient fortifications, and royal tombs. Nearby Epidaurus, dedicated to Asclepius, boasts one of the best-preserved ancient theaters, still hosting performances today. Mystras, a well-preserved Byzantine city from the 13th century, features a wealth of historical monuments. Finally, Olympia, birthplace of the original Olympic Games, offers visitors a glimpse into one of ancient Greece’s most celebrated traditions.Less

Practical information for your trip

There are many bays and small beaches along the cliffs of the Peloponnese. Most of them are pebble beaches, but there are also some sandy beaches. The most beautiful beaches include those around Limeni on the Magne peninsula, the wonderful Simos beach on the island of Elafonissos and Voidokilia beach in Pylos.

There is no bad time of year for a vacation in the Peloponnese: Greece is blessed with sunshine all year round. This leads to a sometimes dry climate in the summer months. This is also the time when you would encounter the most people on the roads. Our experts therefore advise you to plan a trip to the Peloponnese in spring or early fall.
