Church with Holy Grail and El Miguelete bell tower

Silk Exchange, World Heritage Site since 1996

City of arts and science with many museums
One of the first sights on the to-do list when visiting Valencia is definitely the cathedral. The cathedral is located in the middle of the old town and was built in the 13th century on the remains of a mosque, which in turn stood on the remains of a Roman temple. The church combined different architectural styles during its construction and reconstruction. During your visit, you can view the Renaissance altar with its frescoes inside and visit the cathedral museum, which displays around 90 works of art and, above all, the Holy Grail to interested visitors. You can also climb the bell tower, which involves climbing 200 steps. The reward is a picturesque view over Valencia.
The Silk Exchange is definitely worth a visit. The Renaissance building of the Lonja de la Seda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the 15th century, valuable goods such as oil and silk were traded here. This place was therefore instrumental in the growing prosperity of the city. The building is not only a witness to Valencia's glory days, but also an architectural masterpiece. The centerpiece is the Hall of Columns, with 17-meter-high, spiraling columns. The orange garden of the Lonja de la Seda is also picturesque.
The City of Arts and Sciences is one of the city's most important new sights. The futuristic-looking cultural and leisure complex is a well-known photo attraction and a conglomerate of museums, exhibition buildings, opera and much more. The attractions here include the 3D cinema L'Hemisfèric, the Science Center, L'Oceanogràfic, L'Umbracle and the opera. But it's also worth taking a stroll through the building complex!
The central market hall, the Mercat Central de Valencia, is a real highlight for all gourmets and connoisseurs. Its size is unique in Europe: around 1,200 market stalls spread across nearly 2 acres (8,000 m²). You can look forward to Spanish specialties such as cured ham, meat, fish and seafood as well as fresh fruit, vegetables and many spices.
The Jardin del Turia is the green lung of the city. The park stretches for nine kilometers in the city. This makes the Jardin del Turia one of the largest city parks in the whole of Spain. Look forward to a walk in the green oasis with orange trees, flower beds and ponds. You will cross bridges, pass fitness equipment where ambitious athletes work out and enter a small world of its own in the middle of the city.
El Carmen is the old quarter of Valencia. There are many historic buildings, countless restaurants and tapas bars and plenty to discover at any time of day. Valencia is known for its street art. The El Carmen district in particular is a good place to admire the colorful works of art in public spaces. There are also works on the walls by the famous artist Escif, who is known as the Spanish Banksy.
The best time to visit Valencia is generally in late spring and early fall. During these months, the temperatures are already warm and dry, but not too hot, and fewer tourists are attracted to the region than in midsummer.
Valencia Airport (VLC) is well connected to international and national airports. Direct flights are available from many European cities. Alternatively, you can also travel by train or bus via Barcelona or Madrid.
