Taylor's Three Rock in south Dublin is the Irish music evening I recommend over any Temple Bar session: céilí performers in a roadhouse setting rather than a tourist-facing stage. Leave Killarney before 8am for the Ring of Kerry counterclockwise; the coach traffic runs clockwise, and Valentia Island with Skellig Michael visible offshore in the morning light is a stop most group tours never make. The Cork Harbour sunset cruise is the right way to close that chapter; the city's maritime layers read from the water in a way no shoreside viewpoint delivers.

Traveling Ireland by train rather than rental car changes the nature of the trip in ways that tend to surprise people. The countryside moves past you at a pace that rewards looking rather than navigating, and arriving in each city without a car means you're on foot from the platform — which is, in most cases, exactly the right way to get to know a place.
What I appreciate about this itinerary is the Cork harbor sunset cruise. Cork is often treated as a transit stop between Dublin and Killarney, and the cruise on the River Lee reframes the city in a way that a standard afternoon of sightseeing doesn't. It is a genuinely good use of a single evening in a city that deserves more time than most visitors give it.
Hotel: The Grafton
Three nights at The Grafton puts you on Grafton Street and a short walk from Trinity College, the National Museum, and the Liffey. The hop-on hop-off tour on the first day gives you the city's geography before you explore on foot. The Book of Kells at Trinity is worth an early arrival to avoid the queues, and the Taylor's Three Rock Irish music and dance evening needs no further justification — it is simply a very good evening.
Hotel: The Address Cork
One night in Cork is lean, but the harbor sunset cruise makes it count. The English Market is a strong reason to arrive with an appetite, and The Address Cork is a well-regarded hotel close to the main streets and the River Lee.
Hotel: Killarney Plaza Hotel
The Ring of Kerry guided tour is the right approach on a first visit — the logistics of driving it yourself, while enjoyable, compete with actually looking at the landscape. The Killarney Plaza Hotel is a comfortable and central base, and the national park paths and lake walks around the town reward any time you have outside the organized tour.
Hotel: The Address Connolly
Returning to Dublin for a final night at The Address Connolly — a different address from your arrival hotel, positioned near Connolly Station and the Docklands — gives the trip a clean close without repeating exactly the same experience. The last morning is best spent walking through a neighborhood you didn't reach on arrival: the Liberties, Stoneybatter, or the North inner city all offer a side of Dublin that the main tourist circuit doesn't prioritize.
Spring through early autumn (May to September) is the best season, with longer days and pleasant weather for exploring cities and landscapes between rail stops. Winter journeys are possible but come with shorter daylight hours.
Train tickets vary depending on class and route, but travelers should budget around $150–$250 per day including lodging and meals. Rail passes or advance bookings can help reduce costs.
Ireland’s rail network connects major cities like Dublin, Cork, Killarney, Galway, and Limerick. Scenic routes offer easy access to cultural sites and landscapes, though more remote regions are better reached by car or bus.
Train-based trips are ideal for combining city sightseeing with day tours. You can enjoy live music in Dublin, explore castles near Cork, or take excursions from Galway to the Cliffs of Moher or Connemara.
Book tickets in advance for the best fares, especially on popular routes. Travel light, as luggage space is limited, and use guided day tours from train hubs to reach highlights not directly served by rail.

Family trip to Ireland

Colorful, enchanting Ireland

Gladly again

Efficient fulfillment of individual wishes for Ireland
The consultation for a trip to Ireland was carried out by Mr. Diebold in a very professional and friendly manner. He responded well and very quickly to my wishes and later change requests.
Our trip to Ireland was an experience that will never be forgotten. The wild, rugged mountain landscape, forested areas in the mountains with lakes nestled in between — all bathed in autumn colors — magnificent scenery, rugged coastlines, charming villages, castles, fortresses, ruins with fascinating history, and the friendly, helpful people far exceeded our expectations. Thanks to Tourlane, everything went perfectly!
Very competent planning and proposal for our planned round trip through Ireland. Flights, accommodations, rental car, and booked excursions made the trip something special. Even rebookings during the trip were handled by the support team and taken care of promptly. Gladly again — the price-performance ratio is right!
Mrs.Blaes was very friendly, with empathy and knowledge, listening closely. Good advice, and helpful information, matching tourlane offer for Ireland in high-speed.
