Powerscourt House & Gardens

Powerscourt House

Originally built as a castle in 1300, Powerscourt House was the home of the Wingfield family from 1603 to 350 years. In the 18th century, the castle and park were redesigned by the famous German-born architect Richard Castle. A magnificent Palladian-style mansion was built around the shell of the former castle. The house was destroyed by fire in 1974 but has recently been reborn as an exceptional tourist destination. A small exhibition brings the property's rich history to life, while the double-height Georgian ballroom has been restored and is used for weddings and corporate events. The Avoca Stores and Interiors Gallery offer the best of Irish design in gifts, clothing and furniture. At the Terrace Cafe you can treat yourself to a dish from the Avoca Cookbook. Visitors to Powerscourt can also view Tara's Palace on the upper floor of the house.

Powerscourt Gardens

Located at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains, Powerscourt is one of Ireland's most beautiful estates. Powerscourt Gardens are a great example of 19th century aristocratic gardens. The gardens were created around 1745 and redesigned in the 19th century. Century redesigned. The gardens have many special features, including the Triton Pool with its 30m long fountain. To the left are an American and an Italian garden, while below is a Japanese garden. The Bamberg gates to the walled garden probably come from a German cathedral in Bamberg in Bavaria. There are many rare plants and a wonderful view of the Great Sugarloaf Mountain. Not to be missed is the pet cemetery with its gravestones dedicated to the family's dogs.

One of Ireland's most popular visitor experiences and tourist attractions, the Cliffs of Moher tower over the rugged west coast of County Clare.

Visually spectacular, the Cliffs of Moher sit astride the stunning landscape of the Burren on one side and the wild Atlantic on the other. Rising from the Atlantic waters to a height of over 700ft at O'Brien's Tower and along the Clare coast for almost 14 kilometers, or 8 miles, the Cliffs of Moher were formed over 320 million years ago, and now form part of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark. The Cliffs of Moher is in a special conservation area for birds and wildlife. The magnificent cliffs on the Wild Atlantic Way are home to large colonies of nesting seabirds and are one of the country's most important bird breeding grounds. Borrow binoculars from our information desk and watch the birds. Enjoy the captivating spectacle of numerous seabirds, a wonderful way to pass the time.

Walk along the safe, paved paths and view the famous cliffs on Europe's western border and enjoy the spectacular views of sea, land and sky. Their natural beauty has inspired artists, musicians and poets for generations, as well as scientists and geologists drawn to the unique landscape in which they lie.

The Cliffs of Moher, Ireland's most famous cliffs, will leave you in awe and create memories that will last forever.

Tips for your two-week Ireland road trip

May–June and September are the best months for driving Ireland’s south. You’ll find mild weather for exploring Wicklow’s gardens, Waterford’s Viking heritage, and Galway’s lively streets without the peak summer crowds.

➔ Best time to travel Ireland

Hotels average $70–$120 per night for mid-range and $150–$250+ for boutique or luxury. Meals cost about $15–$25 in pubs and $50–$90 in fine dining. Rental cars are $30–$60 per day plus fuel. Entrance fees such as Powerscourt Gardens (~$10), House of Waterford Crystal (~$18), or Cliffs of Moher (~$12) add to the budget. For two weeks, expect from around $3,500 per person.

➔ Travel cost Ireland

County Wicklow offers Powerscourt Gardens and hiking trails, Waterford features Viking history and crystal workshops, and Kinsale brings coastal charm. Tralee and Limerick add Irish hospitality, while Galway includes day trips to the Cliffs of Moher or Connemara. Dublin ends the trip with music, culture, and local food. Activities range from castle tours to kayaking, golf, and food tastings.

➔ Things to see Ireland | Activities Ireland

Book rental cars early for summer and consider automatic transmission if you’re not used to manual. Drive on the left and prepare for narrow rural roads, especially along the coast. Staying multiple nights in Galway and Dublin creates a relaxed pace for day trips.

Everything was perfect!!! We were in Ireland and thanks to Mr. Bernd we were perfectly prepared. He not only found us wonderful accommodations but also provided route recommendations and insider tips in advance.

The consultation for a trip to Ireland was carried out by Mr. Diebold in a very professional and friendly manner. He responded well and very quickly to my wishes and later change requests.

Our trip to Ireland was an experience that will never be forgotten. The wild, rugged mountain landscape, forested areas in the mountains with lakes nestled in between — all bathed in autumn colors — magnificent scenery, rugged coastlines, charming villages, castles, fortresses, ruins with fascinating history, and the friendly, helpful people far exceeded our expectations. Thanks to Tourlane, everything went perfectly!

Very competent planning and proposal for our planned round trip through Ireland. Flights, accommodations, rental car, and booked excursions made the trip something special. Even rebookings during the trip were handled by the support team and taken care of promptly. Gladly again — the price-performance ratio is right!
