Powerscourt House & Gardens

Powerscourt House & Gardens

Powerscourt House

Originally built as a castle in 1300, Powerscourt House was the home of the Wingfield family from 1603 to 350 years. In the 18th century, the castle and park were redesigned by the famous German-born architect Richard Castle. A magnificent Palladian-style mansion was built around the shell of the former castle. The house was destroyed by fire in 1974 but has recently been reborn as an exceptional tourist destination. A small exhibition brings the property's rich history to life, while the double-height Georgian ballroom has been restored and is used for weddings and corporate events. The Avoca Stores and Interiors Gallery offer the best of Irish design in gifts, clothing and furniture. At the Terrace Cafe you can treat yourself to a dish from the Avoca Cookbook. Visitors to Powerscourt can also view Tara's Palace on the upper floor of the house.

Powerscourt Gardens

Located at the foot of the Wicklow Mountains, Powerscourt is one of Ireland's most beautiful estates. Powerscourt Gardens are a great example of 19th century aristocratic gardens. The gardens were created around 1745 and redesigned in the 19th century. Century redesigned. The gardens have many special features, including the Triton Pool with its 30m long fountain. To the left are an American and an Italian garden, while below is a Japanese garden. The Bamberg gates to the walled garden probably come from a German cathedral in Bamberg in Bavaria. There are many rare plants and a wonderful view of the Great Sugarloaf Mountain. Not to be missed is the pet cemetery with its gravestones dedicated to the family's dogs.

Waterford

Day 3

Ireland's oldest city, Waterford, a bustling seaport and the capital of County Waterford, invites you to explore its rich history and vibrant culture. Here, you can delve into the fascinating remains of its Viking founders from the 9th century, showcased at the renowned Granary Museum, and uncover more of its past in the intriguing heritage district surrounding Reginald's Tower. A primary attraction awaits at the incredible House of Waterford Crystal, where you'll witness the creation of some of the world's most exquisite crystal pieces. This large city, with the welcoming feel of a small Irish town, also boasts a vibrant nightlife, fueled by a strong student population, a flourishing art scene, a burgeoning culinary landscape, and a calendar full of exciting festivals. The Cliffs of Moher

One of Ireland's most popular visitor experiences and tourist attractions, the Cliffs of Moher tower over the rugged west coast of County Clare.

Visually spectacular, the Cliffs of Moher sit astride the stunning landscape of the Burren on one side and the wild Atlantic on the other. Rising from the Atlantic waters to a height of over 700ft at O'Brien's Tower and along the Clare coast for almost 14 kilometers, or 8 miles, the Cliffs of Moher were formed over 320 million years ago, and now form part of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark. The Cliffs of Moher is in a special conservation area for birds and wildlife. The magnificent cliffs on the Wild Atlantic Way are home to large colonies of nesting seabirds and are one of the country's most important bird breeding grounds. Borrow binoculars from our information desk and watch the birds. Enjoy the captivating spectacle of numerous seabirds, a wonderful way to pass the time.

Walk along the safe, paved paths and view the famous cliffs on Europe's western border and enjoy the spectacular views of sea, land and sky. Their natural beauty has inspired artists, musicians and poets for generations, as well as scientists and geologists drawn to the unique landscape in which they lie.

The Cliffs of Moher, Ireland's most famous cliffs, will leave you in awe and create memories that will last forever.

Galway

Day 9 - 11

Set on the spectacular north shore of Galway Bay, where the River Corrib flows from Lough Corrib to the sea, Galway is a large, sprawling university city, commonly referred to as the 'most Irish' of Ireland's cities. Despite Galway’s considerable size, the historical city centre is tiny, with a bohemian atmosphere emanating from its colourful facades, buzzing markets and laid-back inhabitants. Dubbed ‘the city of festivals’, Galway is known as the liveliest place in the republic with its internationally acclaimed theatre scene, vibrant nightlife bolstered by a spirited student population, and plenty of quirky hidden cafes and restaurants with some truly excellent food. Highlights include: the constant impromptu performances of traditional music, the pretty Salthill beach with waters suitable for swimming, and beautifully wild surrounding nature.
