Get to know the typical charm of the Irish capital Dublin. Here you can not only toast a Guinness in the pub, but also learn more about the cult beer in the Storehouse. Make sure you also visit the National Gallery.
The relaxed city of Cork is located on the River Lee. The city's landmark is the neo-Gothic Finbarre's Cathedral with its almost 40-metre-high tower. Other attractions include the English Market and the old Cork City Gaol.
There is a lively atmosphere in Galway. The center of the city is Eyre Square, which is surrounded by pubs where traditional Irish music is played. Remains of the old city wall can also be seen in Eyre Square; the promenade is a little quieter.
The history of Ireland is present in every street in Limerick. The most famous sight in the city is John's Castle from the 13th century; the medieval St. Mary's Cathedral, the Limerick Museum and the Limerick City Gallery are also well worth a visit.
Waterford is the oldest city in Ireland and was founded by the Vikings. This era is the focus of the Viking Triangle, where you will find Reginald's Tower with its exhibition. The elegant Bishop's Palace tells the story of the 18th to 20th centuries.
The idyllic town of Tralee lies in the heart of green Kerry. You can learn about the history of the region in the Kerry County Museum and one of the prettiest places in the town is the rose garden. The Siamsa Tíre theater with its Irish folklore performances is nationally known in Tralee.
The town of Sligo is particularly impressive with its wild and romantic coastal landscapes, where you can even go surfing, and its characteristically shaped mountains. Cultural sights include St. Joseph's Church, the ruins of Sligo Abbey and the Carrowmore megalithic necropolis.
You will find Athlone in the middle of Ireland. An interactive exhibition in Athlone Castle takes you through the fascinating history of the city. The Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul and Ireland's oldest pub, Sean's Bar, are also worth a visit.

The small town of Adare has some pretty attractions to offer in an area of less than one square kilometer. Desmond Castle, for example, was built here around the year 1200 and you can visit its ruins here.
The three monasteries in the town are also popular: the Trinitarian, Augustinian and Franciscan monasteries. Adare Manor was built in the early 19th century and is now a hotel resort. The cane-roofed huts along the main street are traditionally Irish.
The harbor town of Dingle is located on the peninsula of the same name. It is surrounded by rocky coasts with a few sandy bays, where dolphins can be seen from time to time. A stroll through the town is worthwhile due to the many small pubs and stores, which you will find in pretty, colorful little houses.
Tradition is very important here and Gaelic is the predominant language. The wonderful surroundings are also ideal for outdoor excursions with extensive hikes.
On a city break to Dublin, you should also consider a trip to Dalkey. Not far from the capital, this charming coastal town has an almost Mediterranean flair.
Visit the 14th century Dalkey Castle, which hosts living history performances in summer. And hike up Killiney Hill for a magnificent view of Dublin Bay and Killiney beach.
We recommend planning at least a week for a city break in Ireland. This gives you enough time to enjoy the lively atmosphere of Dublin, experience the charming culture of Cork and discover Galway's artistic flair. Each city offers unique insights into Ireland's rich history and vibrant present.
In Ireland, the best way to travel between cities is by train or bus. The train network efficiently connects larger cities such as Dublin, Cork and Galway, while buses also travel to smaller towns. For more flexibility, a rental car is recommended.
Weatherproof clothing is a must for a city trip to Ireland: a rain jacket and a sturdy umbrella are essential. Pack layers - T-shirts, sweaters, a warm jacket - to be able to react flexibly to changing weather. Comfortable shoes are ideal for exploring the charming towns.
A fascinating mix of history, culture and lively music awaits you in Ireland's cities. Discover medieval castles, enjoy the local hospitality in traditional pubs and be inspired by Dublin's literary history. For golf lovers, Ireland offers first-class golf courses with breathtaking landscapes. In addition, green parks and gardens invite you to take relaxing walks and hikes.
In general, Irish cities are considered safe for travelers. As in any city worldwide, it is advisable to take the usual precautions, such as looking after personal belongings and not being alone in unfamiliar areas at night. The hospitality of the Irish also contributes to a pleasant and safe travel experience.
Dublin is undisputedly one of the most expensive cities in Ireland, especially when it comes to housing and the cost of living. Other cities such as Cork and Galway follow, although they are generally somewhat cheaper than Dublin. In general, the costs in these cities reflect Ireland's economic dynamism and attractiveness.
