Chianti is the area that lies between Florence, Siena, Arezzo and the hills of Pisa. Il Chianti is therefore the heart of Tuscany. Enjoy the magnificent landscapes with many vineyards, mighty cypresses, chestnut forests and olive groves. Experience the culture of Chianti in the medieval villages and magnificent fortresses such as the Castello di Volpaia. Taste the fine wines and learn how Chianti is made in the region's wineries.

An ideal starting point for wine lovers

Enjoy the Chianti in the old castle

The center of the Chianti classico
Radda in Chianti is one of the most popular towns in the region and an ideal starting point for wine lovers. The famous wineries can be easily reached from here. Chianti Classico was developed in Radda and the winegrowers' association was founded in the 19th century. The many castles such as Castello di Albola or Castello di Monterinaldi and the small villages in the municipality are also well worth a visit.
An old castle, now a winery and hotel: a visit to the Castello di Volpaia near Radda in Chianti is worthwhile for anyone interested in history and good wine! Here you can visit the old castle and, of course, taste the Chianti. The winery offers exclusive overnight accommodation.
In the sculpture park, modern art awaits you in the middle of the oak forest. This natural and artistic spectacle can be admired near Pievasciata, a district of Castelnuovo Berardenga, ten kilometers north of the city of Siena. More than 20 artists from all over the world exhibit their works here, which are harmoniously embedded in the natural forest. In addition to the sculpture park, there is an amphitheater for events and an art gallery.
Greve is the center of Chianti Classico. The traditional wine village is home to the arcade-lined Piazza Matteotti. Here, in the heart of the village, the weekly market and the annual wine fair take place. In the middle of the square stands the statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano, a navigator who landed on the American east coast in 1524. Greve is overlooked by the medieval castle and surrounding castle village of Montefioralle, which is picturesquely situated on a hill.
From May to September, the Chianti region is pleasantly warm and there is little rainfall. In midsummer, it can get very hot and crowded.

If you would like to go hiking in Chianti, remember to wear appropriate hiking clothing such as sturdy shoes. Sturdy shoes are also an advantage for exploring the vineyards. For visits to the wine cellars and in the transitional seasons, a jacket or sweater to cover up with is worthwhile.
