Three nights in Siena rather than extending the Florence stay gives the Tuscany chapter its proper depth, and it's the structural decision I'm most often thanked for. The Piazza del Campo, the back streets through the contrada neighborhoods, and the approach to Montaperti each require time beyond what any day-trip afternoon allows. The Chianti farm visit and cooking class work best on the same day: understanding the terroir in the morning vineyard, then translating that into a kitchen session in the afternoon, grounds the culinary thread in something tangible rather than decorative. For Lucca, cycle the city walls rather than walking them; the 4km circuit above the roofline reveals the Renaissance fortification logic in a way the lanes below, however atmospheric, never quite deliver.

Day 1 - 3
Florence, the beautiful capital of the Italian region Tuscany, lies in the center of the country. A small city with a big heart, and an even bigger offering of artistic and historical treasures. For centuries, travelers have journeyed to the birthplace of the Renaissance era to marvel at the many masterpieces of architecture and art: Michelangelo's iconic David, the impressive works of Botticelli, the Uffizi Gallery (packed with works by Caravaggio and Da Vinci), and of course, Brunelleschi's remarkable dome — the religious centerpiece of Florence that dominates the skyline. All are absolute must-sees on any itinerary. Once you've ticked off these renowned attractions, you can take a stroll through the vast Boboli Gardens or climb the hill to the church of San Miniato al Monte for a breathtaking view of this beautiful, enchanting city.

Enjoy a 4-hour guided tour of the city to discover the most fascinating places in Florence, including access to the Uffizi Gallery. This special tour offers the opportunity to visit the most important museum in Florence, the Uffizi Gallery, and enjoy a very interesting city walking tour to admire all the most fascinating and interesting monuments of the city. Your expert guide will provide commentary on the main paintings on display in the Gallery and introduce Florentine monuments.
Day 4 - 7
Spread across three hills in the heart of Tuscany, the compact city of Siena is a historic gem centered around the sloping Piazza del Campo. Overlooked by the magnificent Palazzo Pubblico, the city is known worldwide for the famous Palio, a horse race held around the piazza twice every summer. Siena has remarkably preserved its quaint old-world charm. Its stunning Gothic buildings include the city’s Duomo, which is arguably one of Italy’s most impressive Gothic cathedrals, along with numerous other architectural treasures. The city also boasts a wealth of exceptional early Renaissance art. Meanwhile, Siena buzzes with modern life, and each of its 17 neighborhoods is uniquely captivating.

Step into the heart of medieval Tuscany with a private walking tour of Siena—one of the region’s most captivating hilltop cities. Led by a passionate local guide, this immersive experience is perfect for first-time visitors and seasoned travelers alike, offering a deeper understanding of Siena’s rich history, vibrant culture, and timeless beauty.
Your journey begins in the stunning Piazza del Campo, often hailed as one of Europe’s most beautiful squares and home to the legendary Palio horse race. Take in the grandeur of the Palazzo Pubblico and the iconic Torre del Mangia, then wind your way through Siena’s charming cobblestone streets—each one steeped in stories from centuries past.
A highlight of the tour is the magnificent Siena Cathedral (Duomo), a true masterpiece of Italian Gothic design. Admire its striking black-and-white marble façade, intricate interior, and renowned artworks by Michelangelo, Donatello, and Bernini. Interior visits can be arranged upon request for an even more in-depth experience.
As you explore the city’s historic neighborhoods, or contrade, your guide will share the fascinating traditions and rivalries that still define local life today—bringing Siena’s past and present vividly to life.

Three nights in Florence and three in Siena, with the Chianti countryside and its farm visits, wine tastings, and cooking class bridging the two halves — a week that covers Tuscany's most significant city, its most characterful medieval rival, and the landscape between them that defines the region as much as either. The Chianti day from Florence is the activity I'd always flag first: the terraced vineyards, the estate tastings, and the hands-on cooking class together give Tuscany a grounded, edible identity that the galleries alone can't provide.
A detail a lot of travelers miss about Siena: the Piazza del Campo is most rewarding in the late afternoon when the day-trip crowds from Florence have thinned and the setting sun hits the curve of the brick paving from the west. Save the guided walking tour for the morning and the piazza for the evening, and the city will make the most sense in that order.
Hotel: B&B Hotel Firenze Pitti Palace al Ponte Vecchio
The hotel sits on the Oltrarno side of the Arno, which puts the Ponte Vecchio and both major galleries within easy walking distance. The Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia are best visited on separate mornings rather than back to back — the Botticelli rooms before 9 a.m., and David with the room still quiet, are each worth the unhurried start. The Chianti day trip fills a full second day well, and the cooking class provides a strong final Florence evening.
Hotel: Hotel NH Siena
The guided walking tour through the historic center, the Piazza del Campo and the Palio tradition, the local trattorias, and the optional day trips to Pisa and Lucca across three full days. The Pisa cathedral square — the Duomo, the Baptistery, and the tower in white Carrara marble on the same piece of grass — is considerably more impressive in person than the single-angle photograph suggests, and giving it a proper morning rather than a rushed stop makes the difference. Lucca's walls, best cycled rather than walked, fill a strong afternoon alongside it.
April–June and September–October are the most pleasant months for Tuscany. These seasons offer comfortable weather for walking tours in Florence, wine tastings in Chianti, and exploring Siena’s Gothic architecture without the midsummer heat.
Hotels range from $55–$90 per night for budget stays, $90–$180 for mid-range, and $180–$270+ for boutique or luxury. Meals cost $15–$30 in trattorias and $50–$100 for fine dining. Activities include vineyard tastings in Chianti from $50, cooking classes, and museum passes in Florence around $90. A week can run from under $1,500 per person on a budget to $2,500 or more with higher-end stays and experiences.
Florence offers the Uffizi Gallery, Michelangelo’s David, and the Boboli Gardens. In Chianti, vineyard visits, wine tastings, and farm tours bring Tuscan traditions to life. Siena’s Piazza del Campo and Duomo showcase medieval heritage. Optional day trips to Pisa’s Leaning Tower and Lucca’s city walls add even more variety.

Book skip-the-line entry for Florence’s Uffizi Gallery and Accademia in advance. In Chianti, plan tastings with a driver or guided tour for convenience. Staying three nights each in Florence and Siena balances art, city life, and countryside exploration.

Italy trip
We are once again very satisfied with Tourlane and the collaboration with Ms. Calabrese. She provided me with detailed information and prepared and organized the Italy trip excellently. Happy to book again 😊
It was a very nice trip and overall we are very satisfied. The Tourlane navigation could be a bit more precise. All the hotels were very good 👍 It was a wonderful time that we would happily repeat again and again.
We were interested in a round trip through Italy and shortly after our inquiry we already received an appointment for a consultation. The conversation with our Italy expert, Lara Schmidt, was simply great. She not only took all our wishes into account, but also rightly advised against one or two locations because of the weather/season. Shortly afterwards we received our offer (route, hotels, rental car), and what can we say — we got a perfectly arranged trip that really included and even exceeded all our wishes. That’s why we confirmed the trip with Lara directly in the next call and are super excited. @Lara: A BIG THANK YOU for the great exchange — you do this with so much heart and en...
Lara has organized my IT Trip for summer with my family. She had some many great ideas and provided so much information about the different regions. I´m really looking forward! Thank you Lara :-)
