Polignano a Mare sits 30 meters above the Adriatic on a limestone shelf, and the cove beaches reached by stairs cut into the cliff are among the quietest swimming spots in Puglia. The structural logic of this route is what I find most satisfying: spiritual landscape at Gargano to coastal leisure on the Adriatic, no ground retraced, and Puglia connects both registers naturally. Book dinner at one of the cave restaurants on the first evening; the sea below at sunset from inside the cliff is the defining image of the stay, and it's worth experiencing while the setting is still new.

Day 1 - 2
Experience Rome, the bustling capital of Italy. This city, rich with exciting history and culture, offers an unparalled mix of ancient explorations and modern living. Immerse yourself in the past and explore the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Vatican. Wander through other must-see destinations like The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon. Experiencing the culinary scene is a delight, from traditional pasta to world-renowned Italian gelati. You can explore daily markets such as Campo de' Fiori for local ingredients and fresh food. A stay in Rome promises great experiences all year round, but it is advisable to take seasonality into account. While spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) offer pleasant weather and less crowds, summer (June–August) has a lively, spirited atmosphere — but can also be hot. No matter when you go, visiting Rome promises an unforgettable journey through the centuries. The unique combination of a rich historical past mixed into a thriving and vibrant modern community makes Italy's Eternal City one of the world's most intriguing and inspiring tourist destinations.

Two nights in Rome, one on the Gargano Peninsula, and three in Polignano a Mare — a six-day itinerary that moves from the ancient capital southeast to one of Italy's most spiritually significant regions and then east to the Adriatic cliffs. The sequence gives the trip a quiet arc: Rome is intense and historic, the Gargano is contemplative and remote, and Polignano a Mare is where the journey finally opens up to the sea.
Polignano a Mare deserves more than a brief mention. The old town hangs on limestone cliffs above the Adriatic — the narrow lanes, the terrace restaurants, and the sea caves below accessible by boat — and the light on the white stone in the late afternoon is consistently extraordinary. Three nights there gives it room to reveal itself gradually, which is the right way to experience a place this particular.
Hotel: NH Collection Roma Centro
Two nights with the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica, the Castel Sant'Angelo, and time in the historic center. The Castel Sant'Angelo earns its own attention alongside the Vatican — the views from the top across the Tiber bend toward St. Peter's are among the best in Rome, and the building's history from Hadrian's mausoleum to medieval fortress is more varied than anything inside the Vatican itself.
Hotel: Gran Paradiso Hotel and Spa
One night with the sacred sites, the regional towns, and the coastal scenery. The Gargano Peninsula — Monte Sant'Angelo, the Foresta Umbra, the sanctuary towns — is one of the most significant pilgrimage regions in Italy and one of the least visited by international travelers. A morning walk through Monte Sant'Angelo's whitewashed lanes, leading up to the cave sanctuary that has drawn pilgrims since the 5th century, gives the stop genuine historical and atmospheric weight.
Hotel: Giovì Relais
Three nights with the beaches, the coastal viewpoints, the historic old town, and the local cuisine and seaside dining. The Giovì Relais sits in the center of the old town, close to the main viewpoints and the cliff-edge restaurants that make Polignano a Mare such a distinctive address. A boat trip to the sea caves in the morning — the Lama Monachile cove and the cave at the foot of the main bridge — gives you the town from the water, which is the angle that makes the limestone cliffs fully legible.
The best time for this tour is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April–June) and fall (September–October). These seasons offer a perfect balance of pleasant weather for visiting sacred sites in Rome and Gargano, while also enjoying the coastal charm of Polignano a Mare before the summer crowds arrive.
On average, a week-long trip to Italy, excluding flights, is about $1,700 per person. This mid-range budget is a good estimate for this tour, covering a stay in a 4-star hotel and popular activities. A budget-friendly trip starts at approximately $115 per day.
This tour is a blend of sacred and seaside experiences. Highlights include a visit to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the religious sites of the Gargano region, and the coastal beauty of Polignano a Mare. For activities, you can explore the ancient underground sites of Rome or take a cooking class.
Booking tickets for major religious sites like the Vatican Museums in advance is highly recommended to avoid long waits. When traveling, consider using a blend of transportation, such as trains, to get around the cities. For an authentic experience, be sure to visit a traditional market and try local dishes like pizza or cannoli.

Italy trip
We are once again very satisfied with Tourlane and the collaboration with Ms. Calabrese. She provided me with detailed information and prepared and organized the Italy trip excellently. Happy to book again 😊
It was a very nice trip and overall we are very satisfied. The Tourlane navigation could be a bit more precise. All the hotels were very good 👍 It was a wonderful time that we would happily repeat again and again.
We were interested in a round trip through Italy and shortly after our inquiry we already received an appointment for a consultation. The conversation with our Italy expert, Lara Schmidt, was simply great. She not only took all our wishes into account, but also rightly advised against one or two locations because of the weather/season. Shortly afterwards we received our offer (route, hotels, rental car), and what can we say — we got a perfectly arranged trip that really included and even exceeded all our wishes. That’s why we confirmed the trip with Lara directly in the next call and are super excited. @Lara: A BIG THANK YOU for the great exchange — you do this with so much heart and en...
Lara has organized my IT Trip for summer with my family. She had some many great ideas and provided so much information about the different regions. I´m really looking forward! Thank you Lara :-)
