Running the Rhine Valley excursion from Frankfurt rather than Heidelberg is the sequence I always use on this itinerary: you arrive in Heidelberg already primed with the vineyard and castle context of the valley, so the walking tour and Neckar boat ride read as a deeper layer rather than a first introduction. The Nordkette cable car in Innsbruck deserves a full morning; the shift from Old Town cobblestones to alpine terrain above treeline is one of the most compressed landscape contrasts anywhere in the Alps, and rushing it on a partial afternoon misses the point entirely. For the Lucerne finale, book a mountain excursion for your first full day there rather than your last: weather uncertainty on a final morning shouldn't be allowed to compromise the alpine chapter that closes the Swiss leg.

Day 1 - 3
No tour of Germany would be complete without a visit to its vibrant capital which, despite its turbulent history, finds itself at the cutting-edge of European art, architecture, culture, entertainment and nightlife. There is an array of fascinating sites to interest history buffs including the previous site of the Berlin wall, Museum Island which contains the magnificent Berlin Cathedral, the formidable Brandenburg Gate and the eerily haunting Holocaust Museum. However, even non-historians will find plenty to do in the hip, funky neighborhoods emerging in the former Eastern part of the city where the streets are strewn with trendy eateries, quirky boutiques, innovative art galleries and thriving nightclubs. Energetic travellers can enjoy a cycle along the Spree riverfront or a stroll through one the city’s wonderful parks. No matter your preference, there is always plenty to see and do in this fascinating, dynamic, modern city.

This 3-day combo ticket (72 hours) gives you the freedom to experience Berlin at your own pace — with the perfect mix of flexibility, comfort, and unique perspectives.

Day 4 - 5
Frankfurt is a city of bizarre contrasts and contradictions. As the economic powerhouse of Germany, its famously futuristic skyline glistens with massive, ultramodern skyscrapers, and its street are abuzz with large herds of suits scurrying around the avant-garde superstructures of its central business district. But Frankfurt is by no means all work and no play. At its heart lies an unexpectedly traditional, medieval Alstadt (old city) complete with half-timbered buildings housing apple-wine taverns which serve hearty local dishes, and village-like neighbourhoods brimming with quirky boutiques, trendy galleries and cutting-edge street art. Add to this melting pot a slew of museums, theatres and opera houses, as well as an unbeatable 24-hour party scene, and you’ll find that this sophisticated, cosmopolitan city has much more to offer than initially meets the eye.

Join this tour from Frankfurt to the picturesque town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a perfectly preserved medieval treasure. Discover landmarks such as the town’s iconic walls, the charming Plönlein corner, and the impressive St. James’s Church.
You can also visit one of Rothenburg’s unique museums, with admission included to the one of your choice—whether the festive Christmas Museum or the Doll and Toy Museum.
Enjoy some free time to stroll along the cobblestone streets, soak in the town’s historic atmosphere, and savor local specialties before returning to Frankfurt.
Day 6 - 7
Heidelberg offers romance and historical intrigue in equally large measure as it rests on the banks of the Neckar River in southwestern Germany. As the home of countless lively beer gardens, Germany’s oldest university, and, of course, the world’s most famous castle ruins, this remarkable city offers a virtually unrivalled variety of culture and entertainment. The highlight is undoubtedly the magnificent Heidelberg Castle, which towers majestically above the Neckar Valley, offering panoramic views of the exquisite baroque Old Town and the surrounding forested hills. Venture beyond the tourist hotspots, and discover an array of beautiful old monuments and churches interspersed with exclusive boutiques, cosy student pubs, breweries and wine bars at every turn. This lively metropolis, with its picturesque scenery and pleasant climate, appeals to various tastes and satisfies almost any interest.

Der Europaischer Hof Heidelberg is located in the town of Heidelberg. Accommodation consists of guest rooms, suites and serviced apartments. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, a minibar, an en-suite bathroom, a hairdryer, a telephone and a TV with cable channels. Guests can enjoy dining at any of the on-site restaurants. Other amenities offered are internet access, a bar, a lounge, a swimming pool and a fitness centre.

Glide along the Neckar River aboard a solar-powered vessel and enjoy peaceful views of Heidelberg from the water. During the 50-minute cruise, you’ll learn about the innovative solar shuttle while taking in highlights of the city and its surrounding areas. Refreshing drinks, snacks, coffee, and cake are available on board for purchase, making this a relaxing and scenic way to experience Heidelberg.
Day 8 - 10
Munich, the lively capital of Bavaria and the third-largest city in Germany, lies on the banks of the River Isar. A modern hub complete with state-of-the-art skyscrapers and an exciting nightlife scene, the city revels simultaneously in its traditional customs and its sense of innovation. Some of the phenomenal historical attractions include spectacular Schloss Nymphenburg and the grand Residenz Museum, along with countless others. Nicknamed ‘city of art and beer’, Munich is strewn with impressive and diverse galleries (top choices include the Kunstareal Art Quarter and other-worldly Pinakothek der Moderne) and offers sublime beer-tasting opportunities in a variety of wonderful beer houses and gardens. Locals claim this is the culinary capital of the country - make sure to visit the Viktualienmarkt and dedicate some time to the metropolis’ restaurants. Gorgeous parks, jaw-dropping sports venues, and world-famous festivals (including legendary Octoberfest) complete the package.

Bavaria is famous around the world for its beer, and Munich sits right at the heart of this rich brewing tradition — far beyond Oktoberfest alone. On this guided shared tour, you’ll dive into the city’s beer culture by visiting traditional breweries, lively beer gardens, historic beer halls, and authentic beer cellars. Along the way, you’ll sample some of Bavaria’s finest brews while discovering the stories, traditions, and craftsmanship behind them.
Day 11 - 12
Set near the German border, the famous city of Salzburg is one of the best-preserved city centres in Europe. Its winding cobblestone streets offer a treasure trove of Medieval and Baroque buildings, palaces, concert halls, and monasteries - all set against a picturesque backdrop of the magnificent snow-capped Alps. Visit the house where Mozart was born, and enjoy a packed lineup of operas, concerts and ballets in breathtaking historic halls and venues. The internationally renowned Salzburg Festival, which takes place every summer, provides the ultimate way to enjoy this scene. Fans of the Sound of Music can retrace the characters’ steps backed by stunning scenes and vistas. Make sure to stroll along the beautiful Salzach River, climb up to the spectacular Hohensalzburg fortress, and try the famous, delicious beer brewed at the Augustiner Braustubl, a monastery-run brewery operating since 1621.

This tour embarks on a scenic adventure through the Bavarian Alps, departing from Salzburg. The tour will take you to the stunning Königssee (King's Lake) and the charming mountain town of Berchtesgaden.
Departing from Salzburg, you'll experience the beauty of the city center before heading towards the Bavarian Alps. The drive to Königssee will take about 50 minutes and will pass through the breathtaking scenery of the Bavarian Mountains. At Königssee, you'll have the opportunity to explore the shore of the lake and take in the views. Surrounded by steep mountain peaks, including the legendary Watzmann, this is an unforgettable experience.
Next, you’ll visit Berchtesgaden, a picturesque mountain town known for its panoramic alpine views. Take a stroll, enjoy some coffee and cake (not included in tour price), and experience the unique Bavarian lifestyle. You'll have approximately 50 minutes to explore the town.
Tip: Don't miss the breathtaking view from the lookout point at the Malerwinkel, accessible by a walk along the northern shore of the King's Lake.
Day 13 - 14
Innsbruck, the capital of the Tyrol state in Austria, lies within the Alps. With its relatively mild Alpine climate and outdoor sports facilities impressive enough to thrill even the most adventurous extreme-sports enthusiast, this spectacular historic city is the perfect springboard for making the leap between the urban and the outdoors. See Emperor Maximilian’s glorious fifteenth-century influences in the Gothic Hofkerche Cathedral, the city’s landmark Goldenes Dachl (golden roof), and the remarkable Gothic and Baroque buildings strewn along the winding cobbled streets of its charming historic Altstadt (Old Town). Every year thousands of tourists are drawn to this delightful picture-perfect city presided over by the imposing jagged peaks of the Nordkette mountain range and the majestic Habsburg palace.

The Nordkette Mountain is easily accessible from the heart of Innsbruck via the Nordkette Cable Car. Visitors are treated to a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the stunning surrounding Alpine mountain range.
The journey from the city center to the mountain peak is divided into three stages. Firstly, the Hungerburgbahn funicular railway takes you from the valley up to the Hungerburg in just 8 minutes. During this part of the journey, you have the option to disembark and visit the Alpen zoo, which is a popular destination for families with children (entrance fee included).
The second stage of the journey involves the Seegrubenbahn cable car, which takes you from the Hungerburg up to the Seegrube mountain peak at an elevation of 1,905 meters (6,250 ft). This is a perfect spot to relax and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Austrian nature.
The third and final part of the journey entails taking the Hafelekarbahn cable car from the Seegrube to Hafelekar, also known as the "Top of Innsbruck," located at an elevation of 2,300 meters (7,545 ft) Here, you will be greeted by some of the most magnificent views and also find a delightful restaurant where you can take a break and relax.

Day 15 - 16
Zurich, or 'Zuri' as it is fondly known by its multicultural inhabitants, lies in northern Switzerland at the meeting point of a beautiful lake and river, with the magnificent snow-capped Swiss Alps standing guard high above it. This fairy tale city is renowned for its beauty, cleanliness, efficiency, and heritage. Explore medieval alleyways peppered with quirky corner cafes, steepled churches, trendy taprooms, and world-class galleries and restaurants. A day in Zurich can include browsing the unrivalled selection of luxury stores on it’s famous shopping strip, the Bahnhofstrasse; riding the Polybahn, the 19th-century funicular up a steep hill to admire the spectacular view; or ‘renting’ a free bike or skateboard to meander along the banks of picturesque Lake Zurich. The venerable palace of art at the Kunsthaus is also a major drawcard, containing numerous world-famous masterpieces.

Explore Zurich on a comfortable coach tour, passing landmarks such as the Swiss National Museum, the famous Bahnhofstrasse, and the bustling financial district. Pause at Enge Harbour for photo-worthy views of Lake Zurich, then continue along the lakeside past the Zurich Opera House to the elegant Zürichberg neighborhood. Take in panoramic views of the city, the lake, and the distant Alps before arriving in the historic Old Town for a guided walk through its medieval streets, featuring historic guild houses, the Town Hall, and renowned churches.
After the city tour, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Limmat River and board a relaxing 30-minute boat cruise on Lake Zurich. A short walk along the shore brings you to the Lindt Home of Chocolate, where you can explore the interactive museum, marvel at the world’s tallest chocolate fountain, and enjoy unlimited chocolate tastings. Stop by the Lindt Café and browse the extensive chocolate shop for souvenirs.
Your guide will accompany you back to Zurich Main Station using public transport, completing a full day of sightseeing and chocolate delights.
Day 17 - 19
Located in central Switzerland in the German-speaking part of the country, Lucerne is undeniably one of Europe's most enchanting cities. With its magnificent lakeside and mountain scenery, its remarkable variety of tourist attractions and its idyllic location at the northwest end of Lake Lucerne, the city is thought by many to be the epitome of 'true' Switzerland as well as the gateway to Central Switzerland. The landscape is a wonderland of snow-capped mountains, glistening lakes, cowbells, alpine villages and meadows full of Edelweiss. The pedestrianised centre of the city is a maze of cobblestone streets lined with medieval-style buildings adorned with wonderful displays of colourful flowers. Presiding over the old town, the original city wall provides stunning views. One of the main attractions is crossing the Reuss River on the famous Chapel Bridge.

Berlin to Frankfurt to Heidelberg, then Munich across the Austrian border to Salzburg and Innsbruck, and finally into Switzerland at Zurich and Lucerne — nineteen days that traverse Central Europe from the Prussian north to the alpine heart of the continent. Each transition is a genuine shift in character, and the cumulative effect by the time you reach Lucerne's Chapel Bridge is a sense of how varied this part of the world actually is.
The Neuschwanstein and Linderhof excursion from Munich consistently produces the strongest single impression of the German section. Linderhof, as I always tell people, tends to be rushed because Neuschwanstein draws all the attention — it shouldn't be. The palace is more lavishly finished, the grotto and cascade gardens are extraordinary, and the crowds are a fraction. Give it proper time.
Hotel: 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin
Three nights with the hop-on hop-off and boat tour, the half-day city tour, the evening food walking tour, and the Potsdam excursion. The 25hours Hotel Bikini overlooks the Berlin Zoo and the Tiergarten, which gives the evenings a different quality from a Mitte-based hotel. The food tour tells a contemporary Berlin story that the monument circuit alone doesn't cover.
Hotel: Sofitel Frankfurt Opera Hotel
Two nights with the city walking tour and the Rhine Valley excursion with Oberwesel and wine tasting. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is worth considering as an alternative excursion if the Rhine has already been covered on a previous trip — the most complete medieval walled city in Germany earns a full day.
Hotel: Der Europäischer Hof Heidelberg
Two nights with the walking tour and castle visit and the Neckarsonne boat ride. The Philosopher's Walk on the north bank of the Neckar — the hillside path that gives you the castle ruins and the Altstadt reflected in the river below — is the most rewarding hour on foot in Heidelberg and earns the detour across the bridge.
Hotel: King's Hotel First Class
Three nights with the beer and food tour, the Neuschwanstein and Linderhof premium excursion, the Nuremberg day trip, and the Bavarian Mountains tour. The Documentation Center at the former Nazi Rally Grounds in Nuremberg is one of the most seriously curated historical sites in Germany and deserves a proper morning before the old town and the Kaiserburg in the afternoon.
Hotel: Hotel Mercure Salzburg City
Two nights with the Old Town exploration and the alpine surroundings. Salzburg's compact character means the Getreidegasse, the Mirabell Gardens, and the Hohensalzburg Fortress are all achievable on foot in a single day, leaving the second for the landscape — the road up toward the Untersberg or the Königssee earns the afternoon.
Hotel: Hotel Schwarzer Adler Innsbruck
Two nights with the Nordkette cable car and the historic center. The cable car from the Hungerburg station takes you to 2,256 meters in under fifteen minutes from the old town — the Hafelekar ridge view over the Inn Valley and south toward the Dolomites is the most immediately dramatic alpine panorama of the whole journey.
Hotel: Townhouse Boutique Hotel
Two nights with the guided walking tour, the lake cruise, and the museum visit. The Zurich lakeside promenade at dusk, with the Alps still visible on the southern horizon, is the right close to any Swiss afternoon.
Hotel: Hotel Continental Park Luzern
Two nights with the lakes, mountains, and adventure excursion on one day and the Old Town and Chapel Bridge on the other. The Chapel Bridge in the early morning — before the day trips from Zurich arrive — has the painted panels above and the Reuss below in a quality of quiet that the afternoon never provides.
