Sorrento rather than the Amalfi road keeps the logistics clean and the mornings early, with boats to Positano and Amalfi before the coastal gridlock builds on that narrow corniche. The landscape transitions on this trip are what I find most satisfying: Rhine Valley to Black Forest to Swiss alpine peaks, and by the time you reach the Amalfi Coast, the contrast with week one has real weight. On the Venice island tour, protect your time at Torcello; the Byzantine mosaics in that cathedral are among the least-visited great artworks in Italy.

Day 1 - 2
Heidelberg offers romance and historical intrigue in equally large measure as it rests on the banks of the Neckar River in southwestern Germany. As the home of countless lively beer gardens, Germany’s oldest university, and, of course, the world’s most famous castle ruins, this remarkable city offers a virtually unrivalled variety of culture and entertainment. The highlight is undoubtedly the magnificent Heidelberg Castle, which towers majestically above the Neckar Valley, offering panoramic views of the exquisite baroque Old Town and the surrounding forested hills. Venture beyond the tourist hotspots, and discover an array of beautiful old monuments and churches interspersed with exclusive boutiques, cosy student pubs, breweries and wine bars at every turn. This lively metropolis, with its picturesque scenery and pleasant climate, appeals to various tastes and satisfies almost any interest.

Day 3 - 4
Known officially as ‘Freiburg im Breisgau’, this cheerful university town is located in Germany’s sunny southwest, on the western edge of the Black Forest. The city is centred around an impressive old Münster and a charming medieval Altstadt complete with gabled townhouses, cobblestone lanes and cafe-lined plazas. This central area forms one huge pedestrian mall and, aside from trams and bicycles, it is entirely free of traffic. While the city’s relatively small size makes it easy to explore on foot, the sizeable university adds to the vibrant, upbeat atmosphere. Don’t miss the trip up to the Schlossberg or Rosskopf via the funicular railway, or better still, take the cable car up Schauinsland peak and walk or bike back to town. With its impressive museums, fascinating history, excellent shopping, lively nightlife and fabulous food, Freiburg makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding mountains and the magnificent Black Forest.

Explore the highlights of the Black Forest on this engaging day trip. Discover traditional craftsmanship and local culture with included admission to the Glass Museum and the Vogtsbauernhof Open-Air Museum. Wander through historic exhibits, admire artisan creations, and experience the region’s rich heritage up close.
Day 5 - 7
Zurich, or 'Zuri' as it is fondly known by its multicultural inhabitants, lies in northern Switzerland at the meeting point of a beautiful lake and river, with the magnificent snow-capped Swiss Alps standing guard high above it. This fairy tale city is renowned for its beauty, cleanliness, efficiency, and heritage. Explore medieval alleyways peppered with quirky corner cafes, steepled churches, trendy taprooms, and world-class galleries and restaurants. A day in Zurich can include browsing the unrivalled selection of luxury stores on it’s famous shopping strip, the Bahnhofstrasse; riding the Polybahn, the 19th-century funicular up a steep hill to admire the spectacular view; or ‘renting’ a free bike or skateboard to meander along the banks of picturesque Lake Zurich. The venerable palace of art at the Kunsthaus is also a major drawcard, containing numerous world-famous masterpieces.

Journey by coach through the stunning landscapes of the Bernese Oberland and enjoy a short stop in the picturesque town of Interlaken, beautifully located between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The tour then continues to Grindelwald, where you board the state-of-the-art Eiger Express cable car for breathtaking views of the famous Eiger North Face.
At Glacier Eiger station, transfer to the traditional cogwheel train, which ascends through tunnels carved into the mountain, bringing you to the Jungfraujoch—the “Top of Europe.” Here, enjoy free time in a magical alpine world of snow and ice. Discover attractions such as the Alpine Sensation exhibition, admire sweeping views from the Sphinx Observation Terrace, and explore the fascinating Ice Palace.
Take a break at one of the mountain restaurants and visit Lindt Chocolate Heaven for a sweet treat. Your descent takes you by cogwheel train through Kleine Scheidegg and the charming village of Wengen, continuing through the scenic Lauterbrunnen Valley before rejoining your coach for the return journey.
Day 8 - 9
The vibrant metropolis of Milan is the capital of Italy’s Lombardy region in northern Italy. Always at the forefront of international fashion, Milan’s sleek, glamorous facade has earned it a reputation for superficiality and excessive consumerism. However, beneath the surface lies a treasure trove of historical and architectural wonders—from its magnificent Gothic churches, Baroque mansions, and Art Nouveau palazzos to the striking modern skyscrapers of the Porta Nuova financial district. Must-see landmarks include the spectacular Milan Cathedral (Duomo), the glass-vaulted Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and of course, La Scala—one of the world’s most renowned opera houses. Milan offers something for everyone: those in search of high-end designer shopping will be more than satisfied, as will visitors interested in fascinating historical sites and extraordinary architectural achievements.

Enjoy a private guided tour of Milan, led by your expert guide, and explore the city’s most iconic landmarks. Your experience begins with hotel pickup if your accommodation is located in the central area; otherwise, a convenient meeting point will be communicated. Start your adventure with a visit to the magnificent Duomo di Milano, where you will not only admire the stunning interior of this Gothic masterpiece but also have the chance to ascend to the terraces. With a ride in the elevator, you will reach the top for panoramic views of Milan, offering an unforgettable perspective of the city and the cathedral itself. The tour continues with external visits to the Sforza Castle, Colonne di San Lorenzo, and the famous Scala Opera House, among other important landmarks. Explore Milan’s rich history and culture as your guide shares fascinating insights along the way.
Starting time: 9:30 am approx.
Day 10 - 11
Venice is a small, unique city in Italy’s Veneto region, a historic center made up of 118 small islands in a lagoon of the Adriatic Sea, connected by a complex network of canals and footbridges. The stately palaces and ancient churches remain as fascinating reminders of what was once a major trading hub between Europe and the Orient. From the famous Gothic Doge’s Palace and the breathtaking St. Mark’s Basilica to the awe-inspiring brilliance of Titian’s Assumption altarpiece lighting up an entire cathedral, Venice has remained virtually unchanged for the past 600 years. Other must-see attractions include the Bridge of Sighs, the spectacular Peggy Guggenheim Collection (art gallery), the captivating Gallerie dell’Accademia (museum), and of course, gondola rides along the canals.

An unforgettable tour not to be missed! Discover Venice aboard a gondola! The best way to appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of a city built on water is on board a gondola. As you glide through the canals of Venice, you will discover the magnificent palaces, churches, bridges, gardens and warehouses that line the city's fluid streets as the sun sets and bathes all the sights in a magical light. Embarking is possible from one of the following gondola stations: Danieli, Dogana, or Vallaresso, Bauer. Ideal for photographers.
MEETING POINT BETWEEN THE TWO COLUMNS IN PIAZZA SAN MARCO Only for Tours after 6pm (from Nov - Mar) and after 7pm (from Apr - Oct) - For earlier tours please check other tour in system "Venice - Gondola Ride & Venetian Lagoon (Daytime)"
Day 12 - 14
Florence, the beautiful capital of the Italian region Tuscany, lies in the center of the country. A small city with a big heart, and an even bigger offering of artistic and historical treasures. For centuries, travelers have journeyed to the birthplace of the Renaissance era to marvel at the many masterpieces of architecture and art: Michelangelo's iconic David, the impressive works of Botticelli, the Uffizi Gallery (packed with works by Caravaggio and Da Vinci), and of course, Brunelleschi's remarkable dome — the religious centerpiece of Florence that dominates the skyline. All are absolute must-sees on any itinerary. Once you've ticked off these renowned attractions, you can take a stroll through the vast Boboli Gardens or climb the hill to the church of San Miniato al Monte for a breathtaking view of this beautiful, enchanting city.

Enjoy a 4-hour guided tour of the city to discover the most fascinating places in Florence, including access to the Accademia Gallery. This walking tour will show the most fascinating and interesting places in Florence and offers you the opportunity to visit the famous Accademia Gallery. In the Accademia Gallery, you can admire the best-known statue in the world, the imposing David by Michelangelo, a sculpture of absolute beauty, an icon of the Renaissance model. Inside the Accademia Gallery, you can admire other important works by this famous artist such as "I Prigioni", "San Matteo" and "Pietà di Palestrina".
Day 15
Presided over by the mighty Mount Vesuvius and with the extraordinary archaeological site of Pompeii on its doorstep, the historic Mediterranean city of Naples is steeped in centuries of fascinating history. Founded long before the Italian state—or even the Roman Republic—Naples holds an unparalleled collection of Greek and Roman artifacts. There’s truly no place like it: vast, gritty, and chaotic, yet this modern-day energy plays out against a dramatic backdrop of grand historical piazzas, world-class museums, and stunning Baroque architecture. As the birthplace of pizza and a contender for the richest food scene in a country celebrated for its cuisine, Naples is a paradise for food lovers, offering a dazzling array of local dishes and gourmet experiences.

Day 16 - 17
Set on a hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, Sorrento is a tiny Italian resort town perfectly situated for exploring the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii, and the Naples area. However, the town itself offers plenty of attractions. Visitors can swim, snorkel, or dive in the sparkling turquoise waters, browse the maze of shops and stalls filled with local crafts, or wander along the unspoiled streets of the old town, discovering its wealth of Renaissance palazzi and Romanesque churches. At the heart of the town, Piazza Tasso perches over a magnificent gorge and is filled with bustling cafes and restaurants serving mouth-watering traditional dishes. The locals of Sorrento have mastered the art of living ‘la dolce vita,’ making it the ultimate destination for indulgence.

Jump on board of our semi-private Gozzo Sorrentino boat and discover the Amalfi coast from a different point of view. Departure to Amalfi, sailing along the Sorrento Coast, passing from the ancient fishermen village of “Marina Grande” and the ruins of a roman villa near“Bagni della Regina Giovanna”. Admire the Island of Li Galli, Nerano, Praiano and the scenic Fiordo di Furore. Relax on board, sunbathe or swim in the blue water of the Gulf. Visit at a leisurely pace the Maritime Republic of Amalfi, and the pearl of the coast: Positano.

Day 18 - 21
Experience Rome, the bustling capital of Italy. This city, rich with exciting history and culture, offers an unparalled mix of ancient explorations and modern living. Immerse yourself in the past and explore the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Vatican. Wander through other must-see destinations like The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon. Experiencing the culinary scene is a delight, from traditional pasta to world-renowned Italian gelati. You can explore daily markets such as Campo de' Fiori for local ingredients and fresh food. A stay in Rome promises great experiences all year round, but it is advisable to take seasonality into account. While spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) offer pleasant weather and less crowds, summer (June–August) has a lively, spirited atmosphere — but can also be hot. No matter when you go, visiting Rome promises an unforgettable journey through the centuries. The unique combination of a rich historical past mixed into a thriving and vibrant modern community makes Italy's Eternal City one of the world's most intriguing and inspiring tourist destinations.

Embark on a fascinating journey through Christian Rome, exploring majestic basilicas, sacred relics, and the mysterious underground world of the early Christians. This tour combines spiritual landmarks, ancient roads, and hidden history for a truly unforgettable experience.
Your visit begins at the Holy Staircase (Scala Sancta), believed to be the very steps Jesus climbed during His trial before Pontius Pilate. Pilgrims still ascend these sacred steps on their knees in devotion.
Continue to the Basilica of St. John in Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome and the official ecclesiastical seat of the Pope. As the oldest of the four major papal basilicas, it holds a unique and profound significance in the Catholic world.
Next, visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major, one of Rome’s most important and beautiful churches, renowned for its stunning mosaics and centuries of history and devotion.
Leaving the city center behind, you will travel along the ancient Appian Way (Via Appia Antica), one of the oldest and most important Roman roads. Along the way, pass the small Chapel of “Domine Quo Vadis,” where, according to tradition, St. Peter had a vision of Christ while fleeing persecution.
The tour culminates at the Catacombs, the ancient underground cemeteries where early Christians buried their dead and gathered in secret during times of persecution. Explore these evocative tunnels and learn about early Christian symbols, burial practices, and faith.
Please note: Due to Catacombs regulations, speaking is limited inside the underground passages. For this portion of the visit, you will join a small group (maximum 15 people) and follow the commentary of an official Catacombs guide. After exiting, you will reunite with your private guide and continue your tour.
A perfect experience for those interested in Rome’s religious heritage, hidden history, and ancient traditions.

Heidelberg to Freiburg to Zurich, then Milan, Venice, Florence, Naples, Sorrento, and Rome — three weeks moving from the Romantic Rhine through the Swiss Alps and down the length of Italy. The Jungfraujoch day trip from Zurich is one of the more significant single experiences of the entire three weeks. What I always tell people: check the forecast the evening before and rearrange the day if cloud is expected above 2,000 meters. A clear day at the Top of Europe is worth waiting for.
Hotel: NH Collection Heidelberg
The Rhine Valley excursion with Oberwesel and wine tasting is the strongest activity here — the castle ruins above Bacharach and the vineyard slopes give you the Romantic Rhine in a way that the old town alone doesn't. Heidelberg's own compact Altstadt rewards the second day at a slower pace.
Hotel: Hotel Victoria, BW Signature Collection
The Black Forest excursion is the right use of the first full day. The Schwarzwald is more varied than its reputation suggests — spa towns, timber-frame villages, open moorland, and dense forest — and a guided day makes the most of both the landscape and the local traditions. Freiburg's minster and the small water channels running through the old-town streets reward the second day without effort.
Hotel: Central Plaza Hotel Zurich
Three nights gives you the Jungfraujoch day trip, the guided walking tour with the lake cruise, and time to explore the Old Town at your own pace. At 3,454 meters, the Jungfraujoch is one of the few places in Europe where you can step off a train and stand on a glacier. The descent in the late afternoon, with the alpine light on the Bernese Oberland, makes the return journey as worthwhile as the ascent.
Hotel: NH Milano Machiavelli
Two nights with the guided walking tour on one day and the Lake Como excursion on the other. The Como trip with a stop in Bellagio is the stronger of the two days: the lake in the afternoon, Bellagio's staircase lanes above the waterfront, and the drive back through the foothills make for one of the most visually satisfying days of the entire three weeks.
Hotel: Hotel Santa Chiara
The gondola and the Murano, Burano, and Torcello island tour together cover the main ground. Torcello is the most easily overlooked and the most historically interesting of the three islands — a lagoon settlement that predates Venice itself, with a mosaic-covered basilica that earns the ferry trip from Burano.
Hotel: NH Collection Firenze Porta Rossa
The Accademia Gallery visit and the Siena and San Gimignano day trip make the two strongest Florence days. What I always tell people about the Accademia: arrive at opening on a weekday and you will have David effectively to yourself for the first twenty minutes. The statue's scale only becomes clear when you are standing in front of it without a crowd in the way.
Hotel: De Bonart Naples Curio Collection by Hilton
One night in Naples is primarily logistical, but the city earns more than a transit stop. The Spaccanapoli — the straight street cutting through the old city from east to west — is the best introduction on foot: markets, churches, pizza, and the city's particular energy all on one axis.
Hotel: Hotel Miramare Sorrento
Two nights with the Positano and Amalfi boat excursion as the main day. Approaching Positano from the sea — the town stacked up the hillside above the water — is a considerably better first impression than arriving by road, and the boat excursion gives you exactly that.
Hotel: Hotel Trevi
Three nights at the Hotel Trevi, close to the fountain and the Pantheon, closes the trip with Rome's full range. The basilicas and catacombs tour, the Colosseum and Palatine Hill visit, and time in the city's neighborhoods fill three days without effort. The Appian Way catacombs outside the city walls give you a different experience from anything inside Rome, and the guided tour there is one of the more memorable things the city has to offer.
