One detail worth knowing about the Neuschwanstein excursion: Linderhof tends to be overlooked because Neuschwanstein draws all the attention, and that is a mistake. The palace is smaller but more lavishly finished, the gardens are immaculate, and the crowds there are a fraction of what you'll find at its more famous neighbor. Give Linderhof proper time rather than treating it as a secondary stop.
