Three nights in Lucerne rather than splitting time between mountain resorts is the structural choice that makes this loop work, and it's the pacing decision I'd always defend. The Chapel Bridge and the lakefront are there when you return from altitude, and that decompression matters after a day at Jungfraujoch. The mountain sequence deserves careful attention: saving Titlis for last gives you the glacier cave and the rotating cable car as a genuine finale, so the earlier excursions don't feel anticlimactic by comparison. On Rigi, an early departure: the morning lake views from the summit are far cleaner than the afternoon haze, and most visitors who go up mid-day miss that entirely.

Day 1 - 3
Zurich, or 'Zuri' as it is fondly known by its multicultural inhabitants, lies in northern Switzerland at the meeting point of a beautiful lake and river, with the magnificent snow-capped Swiss Alps standing guard high above it. This fairy tale city is renowned for its beauty, cleanliness, efficiency, and heritage. Explore medieval alleyways peppered with quirky corner cafes, steepled churches, trendy taprooms, and world-class galleries and restaurants. A day in Zurich can include browsing the unrivalled selection of luxury stores on it’s famous shopping strip, the Bahnhofstrasse; riding the Polybahn, the 19th-century funicular up a steep hill to admire the spectacular view; or ‘renting’ a free bike or skateboard to meander along the banks of picturesque Lake Zurich. The venerable palace of art at the Kunsthaus is also a major drawcard, containing numerous world-famous masterpieces.

Journey by coach through the stunning landscapes of the Bernese Oberland and enjoy a short stop in the picturesque town of Interlaken, beautifully located between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The tour then continues to Grindelwald, where you board the state-of-the-art Eiger Express cable car for breathtaking views of the famous Eiger North Face.
At Glacier Eiger station, transfer to the traditional cogwheel train, which ascends through tunnels carved into the mountain, bringing you to the Jungfraujoch—the “Top of Europe.” Here, enjoy free time in a magical alpine world of snow and ice. Discover attractions such as the Alpine Sensation exhibition, admire sweeping views from the Sphinx Observation Terrace, and explore the fascinating Ice Palace.
Take a break at one of the mountain restaurants and visit Lindt Chocolate Heaven for a sweet treat. Your descent takes you by cogwheel train through Kleine Scheidegg and the charming village of Wengen, continuing through the scenic Lauterbrunnen Valley before rejoining your coach for the return journey.
Day 4 - 7
Located in central Switzerland in the German-speaking part of the country, Lucerne is undeniably one of Europe's most enchanting cities. With its magnificent lakeside and mountain scenery, its remarkable variety of tourist attractions and its idyllic location at the northwest end of Lake Lucerne, the city is thought by many to be the epitome of 'true' Switzerland as well as the gateway to Central Switzerland. The landscape is a wonderland of snow-capped mountains, glistening lakes, cowbells, alpine villages and meadows full of Edelweiss. The pedestrianised centre of the city is a maze of cobblestone streets lined with medieval-style buildings adorned with wonderful displays of colourful flowers. Presiding over the old town, the original city wall provides stunning views. One of the main attractions is crossing the Reuss River on the famous Chapel Bridge.

Enjoy a full-day excursion through Central Switzerland with a scenic coach ride along the shores of Lake Lucerne to the charming lakeside village of Weggis. From here, take the cable car to Rigi Kaltbad, followed by Europe’s first mountain railway up to Rigi Kulm at 1,797 meters. At the summit, admire spectacular panoramic views over the Swiss Alps, sparkling lakes, and rolling countryside. Spend free time exploring easy hiking trails or relaxing at one of the mountain restaurants while taking in the breathtaking scenery. Descend to Vitznau by cogwheel train and continue with a delightful one-hour boat cruise across Lake Lucerne. Arrive in Lucerne and enjoy time to explore the picturesque Old Town. Discover highlights such as the Chapel Bridge, Jesuit Church, KKL Culture and Convention Centre, and the famous Lion Monument.

Three nights in Zurich and three in Lucerne, with the Jungfraujoch, Mount Rigi, and Mount Titlis excursions giving the Lucerne section genuine alpine depth. Three mountain excursions from a single base is ambitious, and each needs to be chosen based on weather rather than schedule — the forecast the evening before should determine which summit earns the following morning.
What I always tell people about the Jungfraujoch: if cloud is forecast above 2,000 meters, rearrange the day and go to Rigi or Titlis instead. A clear morning at 3,454 meters, with the Aletsch Glacier below and the alpine chain from the Jura to the Bernese Alps stretching in both directions, is worth waiting for. The descent in the late afternoon — the valley opening up again, the farms and the meadows returning — makes the return journey as worthwhile as the ascent.
Hotel: Central Plaza Hotel Zurich
Three nights with the guided walking tour, the lake cruise, the museum visit, and time in the Old Town and lakefront promenades. The Kunsthaus Zurich, one of the finest art collections in Switzerland, earns an afternoon on its own — the Giacometti Foundation and the Expressionist rooms are the strongest reasons to go.
Hotel: Boutique Hotel Weisses Kreuz
Three nights with the Jungfraujoch, the Mount Rigi Golden Round Trip, and the Mount Titlis excursion allocated across the stay according to weather. The Old Town, the Chapel Bridge, and the lakeside walks fill the remaining time naturally. The Chapel Bridge in the early morning — before the day trips from Zurich arrive — has the painted panels above and the river below in a quality of quiet that the afternoon simply can't provide.
