Chambord before the coaches, Chenonceau in the afternoon: reverse the standard order and both earn their full hour. For the Médoc, a classified growth estate rather than a generic cave visit; the difference between a Margaux and a Pauillac is most legible when someone can point to the gravel ridges that separate the appellations. And for the Alsace wine route from Strasbourg, give Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé a full day rather than an afternoon; moving through those half-timbered villages at your own pace is a completely different experience from a bus schedule.

Dubbed the ‘Pearl of the Aquitaine’, southwestern France's Bordeaux is a blissful mix of sophisticated city and bucolic countryside: historical architecture and hip modern culture, briny river waters and sandy shores, fragrant pine forests and sprawling vineyards. A wander through the city centre will take you past lacy-spired Gothic cathedrals and basilicas, through ancient cobbled alleyways and atmospheric squares dotted with sidewalk cafes, and along the walled banks of the mighty Garonne River. If retail therapy is what you are after, head to Avenue Saint-Catherine, France’s longest pedestrian boulevard, stretching for over a kilometre and lined with stores of all descriptions, from exclusive boutiques to major department stores. Don’t leave town without taking a tour of the wine estates dotting the city’s surrounds, where you can sample the region’s world-famous vino.

Discover Bordeaux at your own pace with a hop-on hop-off bus tour offering exceptional panoramic views and unforgettable moments. Travel through the city’s rich past and vibrant present, from iconic landmarks like Place de la Bourse and the Grosse Cloche to contemporary highlights including the Cité du Vin, the Chaban-Delmas Bridge, and the Halles de Bacalan. Enjoy an audio guide available in 8 languages, free individual earphones, special children’s commentary, and even a complimentary mini-canelé. With 10 convenient stops—from Quinconces to the historic Base Sous-Marine—it’s the easiest and most enjoyable way to explore Bordeaux.
Total duration of the tour (without stops): approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes (depending on traffic density).
Day 8 - 9

Paris to the Loire Valley, then south through Bordeaux and Toulouse, east through Avignon and the Riviera, north through Lyon and Dijon, and finally to Strasbourg — this is France taken seriously. Each region has its own food, its own wine, and its own architectural identity, and the rhythm of two nights in most stops is just long enough to absorb each before the next begins.
What I appreciate most about this routing is the decision to end in Dijon and Strasbourg rather than looping back to Paris or stopping at the Riviera. Burgundy's wine villages and Strasbourg's Alsatian old town close the journey on a quieter, more textured note — and one that most travelers don't expect to be among the highlights.
Hotel: Hôtel André Latin Paris
Three nights at the Hôtel André Latin in the Latin Quarter gives you a well-positioned Left Bank base. The Louvre, the Eiffel Tower VIP entry, and the Seine dinner cruise each fill a day or evening with real substance. Book the Versailles day trip for a weekday — the crowds are noticeably thinner.
Hotel: Best Western Le Vinci Loire Valley
Amboise is the right base for the Loire châteaux. Chenonceau and Chambord in a single day is an ambitious excursion, but the two are distinct enough in character — Chenonceau spanning the Cher River, Chambord vast and solitary in its forest — that the contrast makes both more interesting rather than more exhausting.
Hotel: Le Boutique Hotel & Spa Bordeaux
Two nights in Bordeaux with the wine tasting cruise and the Médoc excursion is the right combination. The Médoc châteaux along the D2 wine road — Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe — are a serious introduction to one of the world's great wine regions. The hop-on hop-off pass covers the city well on the remaining day.
Hotel: Hotel Le Grand Balcon
The Hotel Le Grand Balcon has a genuine history — the pilots who shaped French aviation in the 1920s stayed here, and the address is on the Place du Capitole. The Albi and Cordes-sur-Ciel day trip is the highlight of this section: Albi's brick cathedral and the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum make a strong pairing, and Cordes-sur-Ciel on its hilltop is one of the most complete medieval villages in the south of France.
Hotel: La Mirande Avignon
La Mirande is a 14th-century cardinal's palace steps from the Palais des Papes — one of the finest small hotels in France and easily the most atmospheric address on this itinerary. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine tour is a worthwhile half-day from here, and the Pont d'Avignon and the old city walls are best walked in the early morning before the day heats up.
Hotel: Le Soleia
Three nights in Nice with the Côte d'Azur scenic tour and the food and wine experience is the right allocation for the Riviera. Nice itself — the Cours Saleya market, the old town, the Promenade des Anglais — rewards the days between excursions. My go-to recommendation: take the train to Èze village and walk the coastal path down to Èze-sur-Mer. The views from that path over the Mediterranean are among the best on the coast, and it takes about an hour.
Hotel: Le Phénix Hôtel
Two nights in Lyon is enough for the Old Town, the Traboules — the covered passageways connecting the silk merchants' buildings — and at least one serious meal in a bouchon lyonnais. Lyon's reputation as France's culinary capital is not overstated, and the Le Phénix Hôtel is well-placed in the Presqu'île for both the historic district and the riverfront.
Hotel: Grand Hotel La Cloche Dijon MGallery Collection
The Grand Hotel La Cloche has been Dijon's address of choice since 1424. Two nights gives you the Burgundy wine and castles tour, the Côte de Beaune tasting, and time to walk the mustard-colored streets of the historic center. The covered market on a Saturday morning is one of the most rewarding food experiences in France.
Hotel: Hotel Cour du Corbeau Strasbourg Mgallery
The Hotel Cour du Corbeau is a 16th-century inn on the Grande Île — Strasbourg's historic island center and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Two nights gives you the old town, the Alsace wine and cultural experiences, and time to walk the canal-lined Petite France neighborhood at your own pace. Strasbourg's Franco-German character — the architecture, the food, the way the language shifts between the two — is the most interesting closing note a France trip can have.

Italy trip
We are once again very satisfied with Tourlane and the collaboration with Ms. Calabrese. She provided me with detailed information and prepared and organized the Italy trip excellently. Happy to book again 😊
It was a very nice trip and overall we are very satisfied. The Tourlane navigation could be a bit more precise. All the hotels were very good 👍 It was a wonderful time that we would happily repeat again and again.
We were interested in a round trip through Italy and shortly after our inquiry we already received an appointment for a consultation. The conversation with our Italy expert, Lara Schmidt, was simply great. She not only took all our wishes into account, but also rightly advised against one or two locations because of the weather/season. Shortly afterwards we received our offer (route, hotels, rental car), and what can we say — we got a perfectly arranged trip that really included and even exceeded all our wishes. That’s why we confirmed the trip with Lara directly in the next call and are super excited. @Lara: A BIG THANK YOU for the great exchange — you do this with so much heart and en...
Lara has organized my IT Trip for summer with my family. She had some many great ideas and provided so much information about the different regions. I´m really looking forward! Thank you Lara :-)
