The Lyon cheese tasting earns more on the second morning after a bouchon dinner and a traboule walk. You arrive with a frame of reference, and the fromager's explanations about Beaufort and Mâconnais traditions land as continuations rather than introductions. Give the Provençal countryside around Aix one completely unstructured morning toward the end of the stay; the Route Cézanne and the ridge road toward Bonnieux are both within an hour, and that open day is where the self-drive format earns its keep. For Nice, time the Riviera tour for a day with a clear mistral forecast. The visibility from the Corniche above Villefranche on a clean day is a fundamentally different experience from the standard coastal haze.

Paris to Lyon by road, then the coast to Nice and inland to Aix-en-Provence — a one-way drive that follows the sun south. The rental car picked up in Lyon is what opens the trip up. From there, the route belongs to you, and the shift from the Rhône Valley to the Riviera to the Provençal light of Aix moves through the windshield in real time.
My go-to recommendation for the Beaujolais wine route from Lyon: go on a weekday morning when the cellar doors are quiet. The villages between Mâcon and Villefranche-sur-Saône — Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent, Juliénas — are small and genuinely welcoming, and the growers there tend to be more candid about their wines than anyone you'll meet in a formal tasting room.
Hotel: Hôtel André Latin Paris
Two nights in the Latin Quarter gives you the Seine dinner cruise, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower VIP entry across two days without compressing any of them. The dinner cruise works best on the first evening — the city seen from the water before you've walked it on foot is the right order of introduction.
Hotel: Fourvière Hotel
The Beaujolais wine route and the cheese tasting together give Lyon's culinary reputation the grounding it deserves. The Fourvière Hotel sits on the hilltop above the old town, and the view down over the Saône and Rhône from the terrace is worth staying for at the end of the day. The traboules — the covered passageways cutting through the Renaissance buildings of Vieux Lyon — are one of the more surprising things the city offers and reward an hour on foot without a guide.
Hotel: Hôtel Suisse Nice
The French Riviera scenic tour covers the coastal roads that the main highway bypasses. The Cours Saleya flower and produce market in the Old Town rewards an early morning before the crowds arrive — and the socca stalls nearby are an introduction to the city's street food at its most direct.
Hotel: Hôtel Negrecoste Aix en Provence
Three nights with the wine and cheese tasting, the old town markets, and the Provençal countryside drives is the right close for this journey. Aix rewards at least one day without a fixed agenda. The plane-tree-lined Cours Mirabeau in the early morning, with a coffee at Les Deux Garçons and the market stalls setting up around you, is the kind of moment this trip is really built around.

Simply perfect

Italy trip
We are once again very satisfied with Tourlane and the collaboration with Ms. Calabrese. She provided me with detailed information and prepared and organized the Italy trip excellently. Happy to book again 😊
It was a very nice trip and overall we are very satisfied. The Tourlane navigation could be a bit more precise. All the hotels were very good 👍 It was a wonderful time that we would happily repeat again and again.
We were interested in a round trip through Italy and shortly after our inquiry we already received an appointment for a consultation. The conversation with our Italy expert, Lara Schmidt, was simply great. She not only took all our wishes into account, but also rightly advised against one or two locations because of the weather/season. Shortly afterwards we received our offer (route, hotels, rental car), and what can we say — we got a perfectly arranged trip that really included and even exceeded all our wishes. That’s why we confirmed the trip with Lara directly in the next call and are super excited. @Lara: A BIG THANK YOU for the great exchange — you do this with so much heart and en...
Lara has organized my IT Trip for summer with my family. She had some many great ideas and provided so much information about the different regions. I´m really looking forward! Thank you Lara :-)
