Bisected by the River Aure in Normandy, the medieval town of Bayeux is perhaps best known for the eponymous Bayeux Tapestry, an ambitious work of art that depicts the invasion of England by William the Conquerer in 1066. Also of interest is the remarkable Bayeux Cathedral, a striking Norman Romanesque and Gothic marvel that towers over the entire town and is crowned by a magnificent copper-clad tower full of exquisite details.
