With around 3000 hours of sunshine, Andalusia is one of the warmest regions in all of Europe. Here you are spoiled by sun and warmth when it is still cool elsewhere on the continent. In spring, temperatures can reach around 68° F, making it ideal for active vacationers. In summer, the region turns into a beach paradise. Fall is also mild. Even in winter, temperatures hover around 59° F, but rainfall is more frequent.

The peak season in Andalusia is the summer vacation period of July and August. This is when Andalusia gets really busy in general, but especially on the beaches. Locals and foreign visitors flock to the sea to enjoy their time off. No wonder, the weather is perfect for a dip in the waves with high temperatures. It is now too hot for sporting activities, so relaxation is the order of the day. Demand increases during the peak tourist season, and with it the prices for accommodation.

The mid-season in Andalusia frames the summer vacation period. While many people want to avoid the peak travel period in July and August, the months from spring to early summer, i.e. from March to June, and then from late summer to fall, i.e. September to November, are an ideal time to travel to Andalusia for all kinds of activities. It is pleasantly warm but not too hot for hiking, water sports or city trips. For beach vacations, June and September are already warm enough for a relaxing time at the beach.

The low season in Andalusia is in winter. If you want to take relaxing walks on the beach or plan a city trip to Malaga or Seville, you will have many of the beaches and sights almost to yourself. It is now too cold to go swimming, and hiking in the Sierra Nevada is also difficult, but the conditions for surfing in winter are ideal. The mild climate attracts many retirees to spend the winter, as temperatures rarely fall below 59° F, even if it can rain more often.

The best time to go hiking in Andalusia is in spring, from March to May. This is when nature is in bloom, the sun is warm and it is not yet as hot as in summer. You can also go hiking between October and November. The landscape is more barren then, but you can take a break from the cold and wet late fall and experience a few more warm days in Andalusia.

Spring and fall are the best seasons for active vacations in Andalusia. This also applies to golf. The best time to go golfing is either from March to May/June, when it is already pleasantly warm, or from the end of September or October into November after the summer heat. Then you can count on mild temperatures and play your rounds on the golf course in peace.

The best time to surf in Andalusia is from September to June. In summer, i.e. in July and August, there are fewer waves, but the beaches are well frequented. The best time is therefore from fall to spring, when it is less busy and thanks to the mild temperatures, you can surf well in the southernmost region of Europe without freezing.

Horse riding in Andalusia is a unique experience. To avoid the hot summer season and the unstable winter, it is best to choose spring or fall as the time to go horseback riding. From March to around May and from around September to November, the weather conditions are ideal for horse riding. Now you can look forward to breathtaking tours through either blossoming or golden countryside.

For tourism, especially beach vacations, the best time to visit Andalusia is between May and October. This is when the temperatures are warm to hot and the beaches invite you to splash around in the sea and sunbathe. However, July and August are the high season in Andalusia due to the summer vacations. This is when families in particular come to the coast and it can get quite crowded on the beaches. On coasts such as the Costa del Sol or Costa del Luz, the beaches fill up with sun-seekers. Hotels are also quickly booked out.
If you are not dependent on the vacation season, you can avoid these two months and enjoy a more relaxed vacation in early summer or early autumn when the weather is still warm. Those who prefer to be active are best off traveling in spring or fall. Then the temperatures are warm, but not too hot. Perfect for inland hikes or horse riding excursions.
