The MA-10 between Sóller and Pollensa is the road I'd build this Alcúdia chapter around: the corniche above the northwest coast, with the mountain dropping directly to the Mediterranean and the old olive groves terracing the slopes below, is a landscape that no beach-to-beach Mallorcan circuit reaches. It's the drive that makes clients understand what the island actually is. Alcúdia's medieval walled town before the Playa de Muro day-trippers arrive: the Roman forum and the 14th-century city gates are within five minutes of each other and almost empty before 9am. For the Cala Bona section, the coast road south through Porto Cristo rather than the motorway introduces the island's quieter limestone coastline at a pace the main road version bypasses entirely.

Day 1
The city of Palma is situated on the Spanish island of Mallorca, where it is the largest city and serves as the capital of the Balearic Islands. This resort hub is a bustling commercial and cultural centre and one of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations. While infused with modern-city glitz and glamour, it still retains much of its old charm in its historic centre - featuring beautiful architecture, narrow streets, and hidden courtyards. Don’t miss the 14th-century Castell de Bellver showcasing classical sculptures and archaeological finds, and the massive 13th-century Santa María Cathedral, which overlooks Palma’s crescent bay. Active types will delight in the numerous opportunities for hiking, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing, biking and scuba diving. Palma’s bohemian allure, rich heritage, al fresco tapas bars, and enticing cafes and restaurants attract scores of visitors each year.

Puro hotel Oasis Urbano offers pet-friendly accommodation located in the famous area of La Lonja in Palma, Spain. The hotel offers an array of rooms and suites with conveniences such as TVs with satellite channels, free high-speed Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, heating, minibars and telephones. Select suites also feature terraces. Guests can wine and dine at the on-site dining venues. The hotel also features a bar, a rooftop terrace, shops, a spa, a sauna and a Turkish bath.
Day 2 - 3
A tranquil holiday resort northeast of Mallorca, Cala Bona offers a serene getaway with its beautiful Blue Flag beach and a promenade lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. Visitors can enjoy the charming cafés and restaurants near the beaches, indulging in delightful culinary experiences. The small harbour of Cala Bona holds a significant part of its history as it was once a humble fishing village. Exploring the area is made easy with a cycle path along the promenade, and for those seeking adventure, horseback riding is a fantastic way to discover the surroundings. Cala Bona presents an idyllic setting for a peaceful holiday retreat.

Day 4 - 7
Alcúdia, located in the north of Mallorca, is known for its beautifully preserved old town, stunning beaches, and rich history. The medieval city walls enclose a charming center filled with narrow streets, historic buildings, and lively markets.
Just a few minutes away lies Port d’Alcúdia, a popular resort area with a long sandy beach—perfect for families, sun-seekers, and water sports enthusiasts. Nature lovers will also enjoy the nearby S'Albufera Natural Park.
Alcúdia offers the perfect combination of culture, relaxation, and nature—an ideal destination for a diverse and memorable holiday.

Palma, then the east coast to Cala Bona, then north to Alcúdia — the rental car lets the island unfold at your own pace, and the route moves from the city to the coast to the mountains in a natural sequence. Alcúdia's combination of medieval walls, the long sandy bay at Playa de Muro, and easy access to the Tramuntana mountains makes it the strongest base for the longest section of the trip.
My go-to recommendation for the Tramuntana mountains: drive the road from Alcúdia toward Lluc and continue through the pass to Sóller rather than taking the main coastal route. The valley below Lluc, the monastery in the trees, and the descent toward the sea at Sóller on the other side make for one of the most rewarding drives in the Balearics. Allow a full afternoon.
Hotel: Puro Hotel Oasis Urbano
One night in Palma with the Cathedral, the Bellver Castle above the bay, and the old town lanes in the early evening. The Puro Hotel Oasis Urbano is well-positioned in the historic center, and the walk along the harbor promenade at dusk, with the Cathedral lit above the water, is a strong introduction to the island.
Hotel: Hotel Atolon
The drive east from Palma along the motorway takes about an hour, and turning off toward the coast opens up a different Mallorca — smaller harbors, coves accessible only by a short walk, and local restaurants that operate without tourist menus. The beaches around Porto Cristo and the Coves del Drach are worth a half-day on the second day.
Hotel: INNSiDE Alcudia
Three nights gives you the medieval walls and old town, the long beach at Playa de Muro, the Tramuntana mountain drive, and an optional boat trip along the northern coast. The boat excursion is best booked for a weekday, when the departure points are quieter and the coves along the Cap de Formentor are far less crowded than they are on weekends.
The best time for a road trip in Mallorca is between May and October. These months offer warm and dry weather, perfect for exploring the island's diverse landscapes at your own pace, from the historic streets of Palma to the coastal roads near Cala Bona and Alcúdia.
On average, a week-long trip to Spain, excluding flights, costs about $1,400 per person. A mid-range budget of around $200 per day covers a stay in a 4-star hotel and a rental car. A budget-friendly trip starts at approximately $80 per day, covering a simple hotel and public transportation.
A road trip in Mallorca is a blend of culture, relaxation, and adventure. Highlights include the vibrant city of Palma, the charming coastal town of Cala Bona, and the historic streets of Alcúdia. For activities, you can take a boat trip to see the island's coastline, go hiking in the mountains, or explore the local cuisine at your own pace.
