Lanzarote has a warm, dry climate all year round. Together with Fuerteventura, Lanzarote is one of the warmest islands in the Canary Islands due to its proximity to Africa. In spring and fall, the average temperatures are 68-77° F, in summer 77-86° F and in winter 64-72° F. There are therefore only slight differences in temperatures between the seasons, but in the winter months it can get a little cooler in the evenings and it can rain from time to time.
Lanzarote in the high season
Most visitors come either in winter to soak up some warmth or during the summer vacations, i.e. in July and August. The summer vacations can be described as the peak season, because when it's school vacation time in Europe, families in particular come to spend their vacations on the beaches. This can lead to crowded beaches and accommodation and prices also skyrocket.
Lanzarote in the off-season
The winter months from December to March are mid-season on Lanzarote. When the rest of Europe experiences colder winter weather, many people come to the island to escape the winter. During these months, Lanzarote offers mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine, making it an ideal destination for people who want to go hiking, play golf or simply relax. With a bit of luck, you can also enjoy the beaches and a dip in the sea. Prices are slightly lower than during the summer vacations.
Lanzarote in the low season
Spring and fall are considered the low season on Lanzarote. The number of visitors is significantly lower than during the summer vacations or around Christmas, making it the ideal time for travelers who want to avoid crowded tourist attractions while still enjoying the beautiful weather and the many activities on the island. Temperatures are a pleasant 68 to 77° F and there is plenty of sunshine, even if you can expect the occasional rain shower. One advantage: flight and accommodation costs are lower.

The best time to go hiking on Lanzarote is in spring and fall. The temperatures are ideal for longer hikes. The landscape is particularly beautiful in spring, as the wildflowers are in full bloom. However, Lanzarote is a popular destination for outdoor activities all year round, so you can also go hiking in winter, even if it can occasionally rain. In midsummer, however, it can get too hot, which is why it is better to refrain from longer hikes.
Diving
It can be quite windy in winter. When the sea is choppy, visibility underwater is limited and the current makes diving more difficult. Therefore, the best time to dive in Lanzarote is generally from around March to October or November. Although the sea is warmer in summer, visibility can be poorer due to algae blooms. It can also get quite crowded in the water. Therefore, the best time to go diving and snorkeling in Lanzarote is in spring and autumn.
Surfing
The best time to go surfing on Lanzarote is usually from winter to spring, specifically from around December to May. This is when the winds are at their strongest and the waves are at their highest. These seasons therefore offer ideal conditions for advanced surfers who are looking for challenging waves and excellent surf conditions. In summer, the winds are generally weaker, which makes it easier for beginners to master the waves.
Golf
The best time to play golf on Lanzarote is in spring and fall. In summer, it can get quite hot and windy, which makes golfing more difficult. In winter, on the other hand, it can occasionally rain. The island is also very busy during the summer vacations and around Christmas, and the golf courses can also get crowded. In the fall and spring, the temperatures are pleasant and the sun shines frequently, providing ideal conditions for golfers.
