Castel Sant'Angelo is consistently undervalued relative to the Vatican complex, and it's one of the stops I always flag for clients who assume they've covered the area. Hadrian's original spiral ramp, the Borgia state apartments, and the rooftop terrace view toward St Peter's give the site a range that the riverside photograph from the bridge completely conceals. For the Amalfi Coast from Naples, Ravello first rather than last; the Villa Cimbrone belvedere before the day-trip groups climb from below is the defining coastal image on the entire drive, and everything after it builds on that. Two nights in Naples changes what the city can deliver: the historic center, the underground Greek-Roman street grid, and the street food circuit each require their own unhurried morning.

Day 1 - 3
Experience Rome, the bustling capital of Italy. This city, rich with exciting history and culture, offers an unparalled mix of ancient explorations and modern living. Immerse yourself in the past and explore the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Vatican. Wander through other must-see destinations like The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon. Experiencing the culinary scene is a delight, from traditional pasta to world-renowned Italian gelati. You can explore daily markets such as Campo de' Fiori for local ingredients and fresh food. A stay in Rome promises great experiences all year round, but it is advisable to take seasonality into account. While spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) offer pleasant weather and less crowds, summer (June–August) has a lively, spirited atmosphere — but can also be hot. No matter when you go, visiting Rome promises an unforgettable journey through the centuries. The unique combination of a rich historical past mixed into a thriving and vibrant modern community makes Italy's Eternal City one of the world's most intriguing and inspiring tourist destinations.

Founded long before the Italian state—or even the Roman Republic—Naples holds an unparalleled collection of Greek and Roman artifacts. There’s truly no place like it: vast, gritty, and chaotic, yet this modern-day energy plays out against a dramatic backdrop of grand historical piazzas, world-class museums, and stunning Baroque architecture. As the birthplace of pizza and a contender for the richest food scene in a country celebrated for its cuisine, Naples is a paradise for food lovers, offering a dazzling array of local dishes and gourmet experiences.

Three nights in Rome followed by two on the coast near Naples — culturally, the jump between them is considerable. Rome carries two thousand years of accumulated weight. The Amalfi Coast is about light on water, colored facades, and the smell of citrus on a warm afternoon. Placing both in the same six days gives each section a sharper edge.
The Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo are well-placed together as a single guided day. Most visitors treat the Castel as secondary, which is a mistake — the views from the top across the Tiber bend toward St. Peter's are among the best in the city, and the building's history, from Hadrian's mausoleum to papal fortress, is more varied than anything inside the Vatican itself.
Hotel: NH Collection Roma Centro
Three nights with the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo tour on one day and the surrounding historic center across the others. The private airport transfer removes the first logistical decision of the trip. The neighborhoods around Campo de' Fiori and Trastevere reward any evening left without a reservation — local rather than tourist-facing, and the kind of Rome that sustains longer visits.
Hotel: Palazzo Turchini
The Amalfi Coast guided excursion is the main event. Take the road east from Sorrento rather than driving from Naples itself — the coastal corniche between Positano and Amalfi is more manageable from that direction, and arriving at Positano from the west gives you the town at its most photogenic first approach. Ravello above Amalfi, with its terraced gardens and views down the valley to the sea, earns the climb. Naples itself — the Spaccanapoli, the street food, the energy of the centro storico — fills the remaining time honestly and rewards a slow evening walk.

April–June and September–October are the most pleasant months. Rome’s piazzas and ancient sites are comfortable to explore, while Positano and Ravello on the Amalfi Coast offer mild weather and fewer crowds.

A day trip along the Amalfi Coast with stops in Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello costs around $90–$150. Altogether, five days usually start from $1,500 per person.
In Rome, the Colosseum, Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, and Castel Sant’Angelo are unmissable. Naples adds historic piazzas, local markets, and world-class pizza. On the Amalfi Coast, the pastel-colored streets of Positano, Amalfi Cathedral, and Ravello’s gardens provide iconic views. Activities include guided walking tours, food tastings, and private transfers along the coast.

Italy trip …
It was a very nice trip and overall we are very satisfied. The Tourlane navigation could be a bit more precise. All the hotels were very good 👍 It was a wonderful time that we would happily repeat again and again.

Simply perfect
We were interested in a round trip through Italy and shortly after our inquiry we already received an appointment for a consultation. The conversation with our Italy expert, Lara Schmidt, was simply great. She not only took all our wishes into account, but also rightly advised against one or two locations because of the weather/season. Shortly afterwards we received our offer (route, hotels, rental car), and what can we say — we got a perfectly arranged trip that really included and even exceeded all our wishes. That’s why we confirmed the trip with Lara directly in the next call and are super excited. @Lara: A BIG THANK YOU for the great exchange — you do this with so much heart and en...
