San Gimignano before the day-trip coaches from Florence arrive is a completely different town from the midday version. The medieval towers and the Piazza della Cisterna before 10am carry the silence the site requires, and Siena in the afternoon with the Piazza del Campo quieting down is the right sequence in both directions. What I love about this Tuscany week is that it's structured around the actual rhythm of these places rather than just checking them off; the Accademia earns most when the guide spends time in the sala dei prigioni before the David, because the four unfinished Prisoners are Michelangelo's most instructive works, and that contrast frames the finished statue in a way arriving cold at the main hall never does. For Lucca, cycle the walls rather than walking them; the elevated 4km circuit gives the city's spatial organization a clarity the ground-level lanes beneath the trees cannot deliver.

Day 1 - 4
Florence, the beautiful capital of the Italian region Tuscany, lies in the center of the country. A small city with a big heart, and an even bigger offering of artistic and historical treasures. For centuries, travelers have journeyed to the birthplace of the Renaissance era to marvel at the many masterpieces of architecture and art: Michelangelo's iconic David, the impressive works of Botticelli, the Uffizi Gallery (packed with works by Caravaggio and Da Vinci), and of course, Brunelleschi's remarkable dome — the religious centerpiece of Florence that dominates the skyline. All are absolute must-sees on any itinerary. Once you've ticked off these renowned attractions, you can take a stroll through the vast Boboli Gardens or climb the hill to the church of San Miniato al Monte for a breathtaking view of this beautiful, enchanting city.

Enjoy a 4-hour guided tour of the city to discover the most fascinating places in Florence, including access to the Accademia Gallery. This walking tour will show the most fascinating and interesting places in Florence and offers you the opportunity to visit the famous Accademia Gallery. In the Accademia Gallery, you can admire the best-known statue in the world, the imposing David by Michelangelo, a sculpture of absolute beauty, an icon of the Renaissance model. Inside the Accademia Gallery, you can admire other important works by this famous artist such as "I Prigioni", "San Matteo" and "Pietà di Palestrina".

Three nights in Florence with the Accademia Gallery, the Siena and San Gimignano excursion, and the Pisa and Lucca visit across three days gives this short trip more range than most visitors manage on their own. The B&B Hotel Firenze Pitti Palace al Ponte Vecchio sits on the Oltrarno side of the Arno, within walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio and both major galleries, which keeps every day straightforward.
What I always tell people about the Accademia Gallery: arrive at opening on a weekday and you will have the David room to yourself for the first twenty minutes. The statue is 17 feet tall and lit from above — its scale only registers when you are standing in front of it without a crowd blocking the sight lines. The Siena and San Gimignano excursion is the strongest day out of the city: Siena's Piazza del Campo and the medieval towers of San Gimignano rising on the ridge above the Val d'Elsa each have a visual quality that no description prepares you for. The Pisa and Lucca combination on the final day is a well-considered pairing — the Piazza dei Miracoli in the morning and Lucca's intact Renaissance walls, best cycled rather than walked, in the afternoon.

Spring (April–June) and fall (September–October) are the most pleasant months. Temperatures around 68°F make it ideal for walking tours in Florence, exploring Siena and San Gimignano, or enjoying wine tastings in the countryside.
Hotel prices range from $55–$90 per night for budget stays, $90–$180 for mid-range, and $180–$270 or more for boutique and luxury. Meals cost about $15–$30 in a trattoria and $50–$100 in fine dining restaurants. Activities such as guided wine tastings start around $50, and a FirenzeCard museum pass is about $90. Altogether, a 3-day trip can add up to several hundred dollars per person on the budget end, or exceed $1,000 if choosing boutique hotels and fine dining.
Florence’s Renaissance masterpieces, Siena’s cathedral, the towers of San Gimignano, Pisa’s Leaning Tower, and Lucca’s city walls are the standout highlights. Enrich the journey with a guided art tour in Florence, wine tasting in the Chianti region, or cycling along Lucca’s medieval walls.

Simply perfect

Italy trip
We are once again very satisfied with Tourlane and the collaboration with Ms. Calabrese. She provided me with detailed information and prepared and organized the Italy trip excellently. Happy to book again 😊
It was a very nice trip and overall we are very satisfied. The Tourlane navigation could be a bit more precise. All the hotels were very good 👍 It was a wonderful time that we would happily repeat again and again.
We were interested in a round trip through Italy and shortly after our inquiry we already received an appointment for a consultation. The conversation with our Italy expert, Lara Schmidt, was simply great. She not only took all our wishes into account, but also rightly advised against one or two locations because of the weather/season. Shortly afterwards we received our offer (route, hotels, rental car), and what can we say — we got a perfectly arranged trip that really included and even exceeded all our wishes. That’s why we confirmed the trip with Lara directly in the next call and are super excited. @Lara: A BIG THANK YOU for the great exchange — you do this with so much heart and en...
Lara has organized my IT Trip for summer with my family. She had some many great ideas and provided so much information about the different regions. I´m really looking forward! Thank you Lara :-)
