A one-week trip to Greece starts at about $1,100 per person, excluding flights. This mid-range budget covers a stay in a 3-star hotel, meals at mid-priced restaurants, a compact rental car, and even some popular guided activities. That comes to roughly $160 per person per day.
Travelers on a tighter budget can enjoy Greece from around $65 per day. This includes simple 1- to 2-star hotels, local fast-food meals, public bus transport, and plenty of free activities.
For a luxury experience, plan on $280+ per person per day. You’ll stay in 4-star hotels or higher, savor multi-course dinners, drive a comfortable rental car, and join exclusive activities with a private guide.

Do you need inspiration for your trip to Greece? Here you will find the most popular activities and tours from our local travel experts.
The price for a direct return flight from the USA (JFK) to Greece (ATH) starts at $800 in Economy Class. This price includes one checked bag up to 50 pounds (23 kg) and one carry-on bag.
The summer months of July and August are the most expensive. It is cheaper to fly with low-cost airlines in the low season or if you are flexible and accept a connecting flight, e.g. via Athens, if you want to go to one of the many islands.
| Round-Trip Flight from JFK to ATH | Average Price per Person |
|---|---|
| Economy Class | Starting at $800 |
| Premium Economy | Starting at $1200 |
| Business Class | Starting at $3000 |
The above fares are taken from major US airline websites and refer to 2-week trips with a maximum departure date of one year in advance.
Prices for a 4* hotel in Greece start at $150 per night. At the same time, you can sleep in 2* to 3* accommodation from around $65 per person per night. In the low season, prices are usually up to 35% cheaper.
For luxurious 5* hotels or resorts, there are hardly any price limits, so an overnight stay on the more price-intensive islands such as Mykonos or Santorini can easily cost $1750. We always recommend opting for a local hotel operator rather than a chain hotel.
Small, often owner-run or family-run hotels are characteristic of an authentic Greek vacation. These are usually simply furnished, but impress with their relaxed atmosphere and personal service.

The prices for the most popular guided tours in Greece range from $22 to $66 per person. With this budget, you can, for example, experience Athens from its culinary side, observe turtles up close on a boat tour on Zakynthos or explore the Acropolis with a private guide.
In general, tickets to well-known archaeological sites such as the Acropolis, Olympia or Delphi cost between $15 to $22 per visitor. In comparison, luxury yacht tours on the Greek islands can easily cost several hundred euros per day.
Nevertheless, you can also go on many free excursions in Greece. These include, for example, a visit to the shipwreck beach on Zakynthos, city tours in the capital or hikes, such as in the beautiful Samaria Gorge.

Car rental prices in Greece vary depending on the time of year, starting at around $66 per day during the high season for a small car. In the low season, you may find deals that are 2 to 3 times cheaper. In both cases, there are additional costs of approximately $2.34 per liter of gas. It's highly recommended to book rental cars in advance, as the supply is limited, especially during vacation periods, which causes prices to increase rapidly.
Alternatively, you can use local public transportation in Greece. Both on the mainland and on the Greek islands, there is a well-developed network of routes served by the reliable KTEL buses. For inner-city travel in Athens, a one-way ticket costs about $1.32. Ferry connections can also be worthwhile. For example, a one-way trip from Athens to Mykonos costs around $45 per person.
However, if you take a taxi outside of Athens, be prepared for comparatively high costs. Even a 15-minute ride from Corfu Airport to Corfu Town costs just under $25.

Prices for a meal in a Greek restaurant range from $16.50 to $33, depending on the dish. Meanwhile, a 3-course meal can cost between $38.50 and $88. Olives and bread are often served free of charge as a small welcome gift. Try typical snacks such as cheesecake and bougatsa (breakfast pastries). These usually cost no more than $3.30 per portion.
If you want to explore Greek cuisine during your vacation, you should definitely try the famous souvlaki (grilled meat skewers) or the numerous fish and seafood dishes. The same applies to the fantastic eggplant casserole (moussaka), the typical yogurt dip (tzatziki), and the many fresh salads.
Meanwhile, the best place to enjoy an authentic meal is in Greek tavernas. These are usually open until 1 or 2 a.m. and offer you a wonderful selection of worthwhile dishes. You can also have fun mingling with the locals here.
