Our Expert Recommendation

The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast is from April to May or from September to October. Then the weather is warm and sunny and it is less crowded than in July and August.

Seasonal overview for the Amalfi Coast

Spring on the Amalfi Coast ensures that nature comes to life from March to May. In summer, it gets hot and the days are long - perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Autumn, from September to November, is ideal for exploring the coast as the weather is still warm and there are not as many people as in summer. From December to February, temperatures are low and it is rainy. Then the coastal region is in hibernation.

Advantages and disadvantages of traveling to the Amalfi Coast in high season.

The Amalfi Coast in the High Season

The peak season on the Amalfi Coast in summer is around the vacation period from June to August. During these months, the weather is hot and sunny, perfect for a beach vacation. However, prices for accommodation and activities can be higher during the high season and the beaches and tourist attractions can quickly become overcrowded. If you are planning a vacation to the Amalfi Coast during the high season, you should start planning far enough in advance.

Advantages and disadvantages of traveling to the Amalfi Coast in the low season.

The Amalfi Coast in the Off-Season

The mid-season on the Amalfi Coast can be defined as spring from March to May and fall from September to November. The weather is usually mild and sunny, and prices for accommodation and activities are often lower than in the high season. The beaches and tourist attractions are less crowded, which means you have more space and time to enjoy the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. The landscape is at its best in spring and fall.

Advantages and disadvantages of traveling to the Amalfi Coast in the low season.

The Amalfi Coast in the Low Season

Winter is low season on the Amalfi Coast. The weather is now unstable, often cool and rainy. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of opportunities to discover the coast, for example on a road trip and exploring the coastal towns. Prices for accommodation and activities are lower in the low season than in the high season. The beaches are much quieter now and even if the weather is no longer inviting for a swim, you can still enjoy nature on walks along the beach.

My favorite place on the Amalfi Coast

“Ravello on the Amalfi Coast is a beautiful town with surrounding gardens and landscapes. Compared to the hotspots, there is less going on here, which is why you can still find quiet corners even in summer, the high season.”

Hiking

The best time to go hiking along the Amalfi Coast is either in spring or early fall. Temperatures are not too hot then, but the likelihood of sunny and warm days is high. In spring and fall, there are also fewer tourists in the region and the hiking trails are therefore less frequented. Nothing stands in the way of relaxed hiking tours with wonderful views of the coast.

Sailing

The best time for sailing on the Amalfi Coast is usually in summer, when the weather is warm and sunny and the sea is calm. However, it is important to note that the summer months are also the peak season and the coast can be crowded, especially in August when most of Europe is on summer vacation. If you want to avoid the crowds but are still looking for good weather and calm sailing conditions, spring or fall are also good options.

Diving and Snorkeling

The best time for diving and snorkeling on the Amalfi Coast is from June to September, when the water is at its warmest and visibility in the clear water is good. In summer, there is a wide range of excursions on offer to explore the fascinating underwater world of the Amalfi Coast. However, it is important to note that the beaches and the sea are often very crowded in the summer months. If you are looking for a quieter time to travel, spring or fall are also good options.

When is the Best Time to Visit the Amalfi Coast?

The Amalfi Coast in Italy is known for its picturesque towns and landscapes, which are best explored from April to May and September to October. During these months, the temperatures are pleasantly warm but not too hot, which is perfect for excursions along the coast, whether on foot or by boat. You can also travel more relaxed outside the months of July and August.

Like almost everywhere in Europe, the summer vacations are peak season, which means that hotels and tourist attractions are quickly fully booked and busy. It also gets crowded on the beaches. The landscape is particularly beautiful in April and May, as the blossoming flowers and trees provide a picturesque contrast to the coastal landscape. Local festivals take place in September and October, where you can experience the culture and traditions of the region.
