Round-trip flights from the East Coast to Sardinia typically start around $700 per person in economy class when flying into Olbia (OLB). Fares on major carriers generally include one carry-on (about 17 lbs) and one checked bag (up to 50 lbs). Flight time from New York to Sardinia is usually 9–10 hours with a connection in Europe.
Low-cost airlines such as Ryanair or Eurowings also serve Sardinia, often at lower base fares, but meals and checked baggage are extra.
Keep in mind that flights are much more expensive during the summer peak season. To lock in the best price, book at least two months in advance. Tuesday evenings are often the cheapest time to book.

In Sardinia, prices for accommodation start around $75 per night per person for comfortable and well-rated 2–3 star hotels. Quality 4-star hotels with a traditional Sardinian breakfast begin at about $165 per night. Location and season make a big difference — rates are higher in peak summer months and lower in the off-season.
If extra comfort matters, consider a 5-star hotel, where prices typically start at $315 per night.
Because Sardinia is a popular destination, the best hotels can sell out quickly during peak travel times. We recommend booking at least six months in advance to secure your ideal stay.

Plenty of experiences on the island are free — you can relax on stunning beaches like Cala Mariolu or La Pelosa at no cost. Exploring Sardinian cities such as Alghero and Cagliari on your own is also free, while guided walking tours of the city centers start at about $22.

Renting a car in Sardinia starts at about $55 per day, plus fuel costs of around $8 per gallon. A rental car gives you the freedom to explore the island at your own pace. However, in cities like Cagliari and Olbia, parking in the center can be difficult. It’s often easier to use parking garages outside the city center and explore the downtown area on foot.
Public buses are a good alternative, with an extensive city and regional network across the island. A one-way city bus ticket costs about $1.50. Sardinia also has scenic train routes — one of the most beautiful is the line from Arbatax on the east coast to Gairo in the interior, costing around $15 per person for a journey of just under 3 hours.

Beyond Italy’s famous national dishes, Sardinia offers plenty of regional specialties. Try a fresh octopus salad for around $8, or culurgiones — handmade dumplings filled with potato and cheese — starting at just $3.50.
For the best value, look for restaurants off the main tourist paths where locals eat. These often serve more authentic meals at better prices.
