How much does a trip to Sardinia cost?

With a weekly budget of about $1,870 per person, you can relax and fully enjoy your Sardinia getaway. This includes stays in comfortable 4-star hotels with a traditional Sardinian breakfast. With a daily budget of around $270, you can dine in excellent local restaurants and join guided tours. Taxis make it easy to reach your destinations.

Thrifty travelers can also enjoy Sardinia with a budget of about $90 per day. This covers stays in cozy 2–3 star hotels, meals in inexpensive restaurants, and the chance to explore the island on your own using the public bus network.

If comfort and exclusivity matter most, plan on spending from $495 per day. This allows you to stay in luxurious 5-star hotels, enjoy fine dining, and take part in wine tastings and private boat excursions — a way to experience Sardinia with all your senses.

Sardische Gnocchi mit Tomatensauce und geriebenem Käse
“Be sure to try a typical Sardinian menu with gnocchetti sardi (pasta), porceddu (suckling pig) and seadas (dumplings filled with fresh pecorino). But beware: most menus are very sumptuous. It is therefore better to hold back a little on the pane carasau (thin bread) served with your meal.”

How much does a flight to Sardinia cost?

Round-trip flights from the East Coast to Sardinia typically start around $700 per person in economy class when flying into Olbia (OLB). Fares on major carriers generally include one carry-on (about 17 lbs) and one checked bag (up to 50 lbs). Flight time from New York to Sardinia is usually 9–10 hours with a connection in Europe.

Low-cost airlines such as Ryanair or Eurowings also serve Sardinia, often at lower base fares, but meals and checked baggage are extra.

Keep in mind that flights are much more expensive during the summer peak season. To lock in the best price, book at least two months in advance. Tuesday evenings are often the cheapest time to book.

Economy Classfrom $700
Premium Economynot available
Business Classfrom $1400

The flight prices quoted are from one of the leading booking websites and refer to 1-2 week trips with a departure date no more than 1 year in advance.

How much does accommodation cost in Sardinia?

In Sardinia, prices for accommodation start around $75 per night per person for comfortable and well-rated 2–3 star hotels. Quality 4-star hotels with a traditional Sardinian breakfast begin at about $165 per night. Location and season make a big difference — rates are higher in peak summer months and lower in the off-season.

If extra comfort matters, consider a 5-star hotel, where prices typically start at $315 per night.

Because Sardinia is a popular destination, the best hotels can sell out quickly during peak travel times. We recommend booking at least six months in advance to secure your ideal stay.

Hotel Category (Sardinia)Average price per night
2-3 Starfrom $75
4 Starfrom $165
5 Starfrom $315

Please note that the costs shown are average prices for overnight stays in a single or double room for one person. All prices come from one of the leading booking platforms and refer to accommodation with a good rating (at least 8/10).

How much do activities and tours cost in Sardinia?

Prices for many of Sardinia’s most popular activities and tours range from $55–$70. Examples include boat trips to the La Maddalena Islands or dolphin-watching excursions.

Plenty of experiences on the island are free — you can relax on stunning beaches like Cala Mariolu or La Pelosa at no cost. Exploring Sardinian cities such as Alghero and Cagliari on your own is also free, while guided walking tours of the city centers start at about $22.

For something more exclusive, wine tastings in Sardinia’s beautiful wine regions begin around $110 per person, often including lunch and other highlights. Group tours can also help keep costs down.

ActivityAverage price per person
Wine tour and tasting$109
Boat tour to La Maddalena Islands$55
Full-day catamaran excursion$164
Walking tour of Cagliarifree
Snorkeling with own equipmentfree
Kayak tour to Devil’s Saddle from Cagliari$98

Means of transportation in Sardinia: Rental car or bus?

Renting a car in Sardinia starts at about $55 per day, plus fuel costs of around $8 per gallon. A rental car gives you the freedom to explore the island at your own pace. However, in cities like Cagliari and Olbia, parking in the center can be difficult. It’s often easier to use parking garages outside the city center and explore the downtown area on foot.

Public buses are a good alternative, with an extensive city and regional network across the island. A one-way city bus ticket costs about $1.50. Sardinia also has scenic train routes — one of the most beautiful is the line from Arbatax on the east coast to Gairo in the interior, costing around $15 per person for a journey of just under 3 hours.

Vehicle Type (Sardinia)Average price per day
Economy Carfrom $55
Mid-size Carfrom $76
Large Vehiclefrom $87
SUVfrom $109

How expensive is eating out in Sardinia?

A meal in a tourist restaurant in Sardinia costs about $16–$27, while a three-course dinner in a mid-range restaurant ranges from $55–$87. Fast food spots are the most affordable, with meals around $9–$11.

Beyond Italy’s famous national dishes, Sardinia offers plenty of regional specialties. Try a fresh octopus salad for around $8, or culurgiones — handmade dumplings filled with potato and cheese — starting at just $3.50.

For the best value, look for restaurants off the main tourist paths where locals eat. These often serve more authentic meals at better prices.

Meal in inexpensive tourist restaurant$16-$27
